Howard Bender
Howard Nicholas Bender (born September 25, 1951) is an American comic book artist best known for his work for DC Comics and Archie Comics. Biography Howard Bender was born in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in the Highland Park neighborhood of Pittsburgh. He attended the Art Students League and was a co-founder of the Pittsburgh Comics Club in 1972. After working in the production department at Marvel Comics as a letterer and artist (1974–1980), he held a similar role at DC Comics (1981–1985). His Marvel work included adding tones to the black-and-white artwork in Marvel UK's ''Star Wars Weekly'' series. At DC Comics, Bender drew one-page introduction features in various mystery titles such as ''Ghosts'', ''Secrets of Haunted House'', '' The Unexpected'', and ''Weird War Tales''. David Bender is an American political activist, author and former host of the talk radio show ''Politically Direct'' on Air America Radio. Austin Letheridge Bender
A. L. “Chunk” Bender (June 6, 1916 – August 28, 1980) was the mayor of the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee from 1969 to 1971 after serving as Commissioner for many years. Due to health problems he declined a re-election bid. While the office of mayor in Chattanooga is officially non-partisan, he was a member of the Democratic Party. Biography Bender was born in 1916 in Chattanooga, the youngest of 14 children. In 1938 he married Rozelle Kelso (1916-2012) from Fayetteville, Tennessee. He served in the United States Army during World War II and attained the rank of captain. He saw action in the Pacific. While he was at war, his first daughter, Patricia Ann, was born. Stanley Bender
Stanley Bender (October 31, 1909 – June 22, 1994) was a Lithuanian American United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration—the Medal of Honor—for his actions in World War II. Biography Stanley Bender was born in Carlisle, West Virginia, but later moved with his parents to Chicago, where he worked in slaughterhouses and then as a taxi driver. Bender joined the Army from Chicago, Illinois in December 1939. By August 17, 1944, was serving as a staff sergeant in Company E, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. On that day, near La Londe-les-Maures, France, he single-handedly silenced two German machine gun emplacements and led his squad in the destruction of the remainder of a German strong point.
