Bench Lake
Bench Lake is a freshwater lake located on the north skirt of Unicorn Peak along the Tatoosh Range in Lewis County, Washington. Along with neighboring Snow Lake, they are considered some of the most visited lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The lake is also stocked with rainbow trout for fishing. Lewis County is a county in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2020 census, the county's population was 82,149. The county seat is Chehalis, and its largest city is Centralia. Lewis County comprises the Centralia, WA Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Seattle- Tacoma, WA Combined Statistical Area. History The county was created as Vancouver County on December 19, 1845, by the Provisional Government of Oregon, named for George Vancouver. Unicorn Peak
Unicorn Peak is the highest point in the Tatoosh Range which is a sub-range of the Cascade Range. It's located in Mount Rainier National Park, south of Mount Rainier. The descriptive name is for the mountain's resemblance to the head and horn of a unicorn. The name was officially adopted in 1913 by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names. Precipitation runoff from the mountain's small glaciers, such as Unicorn Glacier, drains into tributaries of the Cowlitz River. Climate Unicorn Peak is located in the marine west coast climate zone of western North America. Most weather fronts originate in the Pacific Ocean, and travel northeast toward the Cascade Mountains. As fronts approach, they are forced upward by the peaks of the Cascade Range (Orographic lift), causing them to drop their moisture in the form of rain or snowfall onto the Cascades. The Alpine Lakes Wilderness is a large National Wilderness Preservation System, wilderness area spanning the Central Cascades of Washington (state), Washington state in the United States. The wilderness is located in parts of Wenatchee National Forest and Snoqualmie National Forest, and is approximately bounded by Interstate 90 in Washington, Interstate 90 and Snoqualmie Pass, Washington, Snoqualmie Pass to the south and U.S. Route 2 and Stevens Pass to the north. Washington Trails Association (WTA) is a non-profit organization that advocates protection of hiking trails and wilderness, conducts trail maintenance, and promotes hiking in Washington state. Their principal values emphasize the benefits nature can have on the mind and body, the willingness people have to protect the trails they love, and the importance of ensuring that the outdoors is made accessible to all. Its offices are currently located on the corner of Second and Cherry in Downtown Seattle. The rainbow trout (''Oncorhynchus mykiss'') is a species of trout native to cold-water tributaries of the Pacific Ocean in Asia and North America.
