Ben Smith (musician)
Benjamin J. Smith (born March 1, 1905, date of death unknown) was an American jazz alto saxophone, alto saxophonist, tenor saxophone, tenor saxophonist and clarinetist. He was born in Memphis. Early career In the early 1920s, Smith played with local Memphis jazz bands before going on the road with territory bands such as the Connor and McWilliams Boston Serenaders, William Holloway and the Merrymakers, and Eli Rice's Plantation Cotton Pickers. In Kansas City he led his own bands and in 1930 played with George E. Lee and then in Pennsylvania led his own White Hut Orchestra and worked with Blanche Calloway and Charlie Gaines. Ben Smith (born May 16, 1990) is a professional CrossFit athlete from Virginia, United States. He has competed at the CrossFit Games every year from 2009 to 2019, finishing on the podium four times: first place in 2015, second in 2016, and third in 2011 and 2013. He is the first competitor to make ten consecutive appearances in the Individual Division at the CrossFit Games. He was able to extend the streak to 11 years following the adjusted qualification rules for the 2019 CrossFit Games that gave him wildcard invitation. Smith was a baseball player throughout childhood and was introduced to CrossFit during his senior year of high school in 2008 and qualified for the CrossFit Games the next year. Benjamin Sandipher Smith (March 16, 1921 – July 21, 2009) was an American golfer. Smith was born in Fort Myers, Florida. In 1938 and 1939 he won the Florida State High School Championship, and was offered a golf scholarship to go to Tulane University, but by chance he met Thomas Trueblood, the golf coach at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and he invited Smith to come to University of Michigan and live as his houseboy. He moved to Ann Arbor in 1939, and in his four years at the University of Michigan he finished 3rd, 2nd, and 1st in the Big Ten Championship. In 1950, he won the Michigan Amateur at Gull Lake. He also won the GAM Championship five times and qualified for six USGA Championships. In 1943, Smith was the president of the National Intercollegiate Golf Association and worked with Chick Evans in his caddy scholarship program. Benjamin Leigh Smith (12 March 1828 – 4 January 1913) was an English Arctic explorer and yachtsman. He is the grandson of the Radical abolitionist William Smith. Early life He was born in Whatlington, Sussex, the extramarital child of Anne Longden, a milliner from Alfreton, and the Whig politician Benjamin Smith (1783–1860), the only son of William Smith, a Radical abolitionist. On a visit to his sister in Derbyshire in 1826, Benjamin senior met Anne Longden. She became pregnant by him and he took her to a rented lodge at Whatlington, a small village near Battle, East Sussex. Benjamin Robert Smith (born 1 June 1986) is a New Zealand rugby union player, currently playing for the Kobelco Steelers. He formerly played for the in the Super Rugby competition and for in the ITM Cup.
