Ben Richards (writer)
Ben Richards (born 1964) is a British screenwriter and novelist. He has been the lead writer on Spooks and is the writer/creator of Party Animals, Outcasts, COBRA and Showtrial. He also created “The Tunnel” from the Scandinavian original of “The Bridge” as well as adapting “The Cuckoo’s Calling”, the first in Robert Galbraith’s “Strike” series for BBC1. Career Before writing novels and TV dramas, he worked for three years as a housing officer in Newham and Islington, London. As a research student at UCL's Department of Geography he spent a year investigating public housing in Chile and on his return to Britain began his first novel "to alleviate the boredom of analysing questionnaires" for his PhD thesis. Richards was a lecturer at the University of Birmingham and at University College London, where he taught development studies, specialising in South America. He is now a full-time writer. The Tunnel (TV Series)
''The Tunnel'' (french: link=no, Tunnel) is a British-French crime drama television series adapted from the 2011 Danish-Swedish crime series '' The Bridge'' (''Bron''/''Broen''). The series began broadcasting on 16 October 2013 on Sky Atlantic in the UK, and on 11 November 2013 on Canal+ in France. The series stars Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy as British and French police detectives Karl Roebuck and Elise Wassermann. The plot follows the two detectives working together to find a serial killer who left the upper half of a French politician and the lower half of a British prostitute in the Channel Tunnel at the midpoint between France and the UK. The killer is nicknamed the "Truth Terrorist" and is on a moral crusade to highlight many social problems, terrorising both countries in the process. ''Showtrial'' is a British television legal drama created by Ben Richards and starring Tracy Ifeachor and Céline Buckens. The five-part first series aired on BBC One from October to November 2021 and starred Tracy Ifeachor and Céline Buckens. Two years later, it was announced that ''Showtrial'' had been developed into an anthology format and that a second series had been ordered, starring a new cast. The first series received a mixed reception from critics. The writing, pace and lack of subtlety received criticism from reviewers. However, the format, dramatic scenes and Buckens' acting was praised. Altice Studio is a French Premium pay television channel dedicated to movies and series operated by Altice France. Sky One
Sky One was a British pay television channel operated and owned by Sky Group (a division of Comcast). Originally launched on 26 April 1982 as Satellite Television, it was Europe's first satellite and non-terrestrial channel. From 31 July 1989, it became Sky One and broadcast exclusively in the United Kingdom and Ireland as British Sky Broadcasting's flagship channel, being the most watched television service in history. ''COBRA'' is a British drama series on Sky One that premiered in January 2020. The first, six-part series is written by Ben Richards and stars Robert Carlyle and Victoria Hamilton. Sky Atlantic is a British pay television channel owned by Sky Group Limited broadcast in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
