Ben Kozlowski
Benjamin Anthony Kozlowski (born August 16, 1980) is a former professional baseball left-handed pitcher. He previously played in Major League Baseball for the Texas Rangers and in Nippon Professional Baseball for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. Drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 12th round of the 1999 MLB amateur draft, Kozlowski made his Major League Baseball debut with the Texas Rangers on September 19, 2002. He struck out John Olerud looking for his first Major League strikeout. His 2003 season was cut short when he suffered a torn elbow ligament, necessitating Tommy John surgery. Kozlowski returned to action in the middle of the 2004 season, but struggled, and was placed on waivers by the Rangers after the season. Kozlowski was claimed off of waivers by the Cincinnati Reds. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum.
