Ben Kirtland is a former coach for the Connecticut Huskies men's ice hockey team and former associate athletic director at the University of Kansas. Professional career Kirtland coached seven seasons at the Division III level from 1981 to 1988. Connecticut Huskies Men's Ice Hockey
The UConn Huskies men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Connecticut. The Huskies are a member of Hockey East. The Huskies currently play at XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut; the team will move to the new on-campus UConn Hockey Arena starting with the 2023–24 season. History The Huskies men's ice hockey program began in 1960 under head coach John Chapman. UConn began NCAA competition at the NCAA Division III level in the ECAC East. Prior to 1998, the Huskies played all home games outdoors at a partially enclosed rink on-campus near Memorial Stadium. The UConn Hockey Rink had a roof but was open on the sides. The 1987–88 NCAA Division III men's ice hockey season began in October 1987 and concluded on March 25 of the following year. This was the 15th season of Division III college ice hockey. In 1990 the NCAA ruled that Plattsburgh State had violated regulations by allowing some of their players to reside in houses owned by people invested in the ice hockey program and were provided with some measure of benefits including free housing, free meals and cash loans. Because these violations occurred between 1985 and 1988 Plattsburgh State's participation in all NCAA games during that time was vacated. Merrimack became the first non- Division I program to receive a bid to the Division I Tournament. As of 2019 no other school outside the top tier has made an appearance in the national championship. The Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball program is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of the University of Kansas. The 1985–86 NCAA Division III men's ice hockey season began in November 1985 and concluded on March 22 of the following year. This was the 13th season of Division III college ice hockey. Though ECAC 2 formally split into two separate conferences in 1985, all games played between ECAC East and ECAC West teams would count for their conference standings. NEHC Men's Tournament
History The New England Hockey Conference men's tournament began as the 'ECAC East Tournament' in 1985, a year after ECAC 2 downgraded to Division III and during the season where the conference formally split into two separate entities. For most of its existence the tournament was an 8-team format but on occasion the top seed would receive a bye into the semifinal round. For a few years during the late 1990s the tournament was expanded to include 10 teams but this was abandoned when nine teams left to form the ice hockey division of the NESCAC. Beginning with the 2004 tournament, the top seeded team to reach the semifinal round served as host for all semifinal and championship games regardless of their participation. This arrangement was abandoned after the 2013 tournament and the final two rounds were placed on different weekends.
