Ben Kanute
Ben Kanute (born December 14, 1992) is an American triathlete who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In 2017 and 2022 he took second place at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship. Career Kanute is the 2015 USA Triathlon Elite National champion. The World Triathlon Mixed Relay Championships, is an annual team triathlon competition organized by World Triathlon. The competition is completed in teams of four, two men and two women, with each member doing a super-sprint distance triathlon. History The first relay event appeared in 2003 in Tiszaújváros, Hungary as the ITU Team Relay Championships, two races were run one for men's teams and one for women's teams every team would have three members who would each complete one leg and the teams combined time would be their total time. Despite being deemed a success the event would not return until 2006. The championship would return in 2006 and 2007 before once again lacking an annual competition in 2008. The men's triathlon at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place at Fort Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro on 18 August. A total of 55 men from 31 nations competed in the race. Alistair Brownlee from Great Britain became the first man to defend his Olympic triathlon title after his previous win at the 2012 Summer Olympics. His younger brother Jonathan Brownlee finished in second place and added another Olympic medal to his collection after his bronze one from 2012. Henri Schoeman took the bronze and became the first South African to win an Olympic triathlon medal. Course The event took place in Fort Copacabana. It consisted of a single 1.5 kilometres swim lap along the Copacabana beach. The competitors then completed a 38.48 kilometres bike leg consisting of eight 4.81 kilometres laps.
