Benjamin Robbins Curtis
Benjamin Robbins Curtis (November 4, 1809 – September 15, 1874) was an American lawyer and judge. He served as an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1851 to 1857. Curtis was the first and only Whig justice of the Supreme Court, and was also the first Supreme Court justice to have a formal law degree. He is often remembered as one of the two dissenters in ''Dred Scott v. Sandford'' (1857). Curtis resigned from the Supreme Court in 1857 to return to private legal practice in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1868, Curtis was President Andrew Johnson's defense lawyer during Johnson's impeachment trial. Early life and education Curtis was born November 4, 1809, in Watertown, Massachusetts, the son of Lois Robbins and Benjamin Curtis, the captain of a merchant vessel. Ben Clifford Curtis (born May 26, 1977) is an American professional golfer and 4-time winner on the PGA Tour, best known for winning the 2003 Open Championship. In January 2018, Curtis told ''Golf Digest'' that he has stopped playing golf competitively, opting to teach instead. Early career Curtis was born in Columbus, Ohio and grew up in Ostrander. His family runs thMill Creek Golf Club also in Ostrander. Curtis is a graduate of Buckeye Valley High School and Kent State University, where he was a star on the golf team and earned a bachelor's degree in recreation management in 2000. As an amateur, Curtis found much success, winning the Ohio Amateur in 1999 and 2000 (joining professional golfers John Cook, Arnold Palmer and Frank Stranahan as the only men to win the Ohio Amateur in consecutive years), and also the Players Amateur in 2000. Benjamin Bowmar Curtis (born November 2, 1980) is an American actor who became known as the Dell Dude in a series of commercials for Dell Computers between 2000 and 2003. Since then, he has acted on stage and on screen. Early life and education Curtis, born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is the second of two children; he attended and graduated from The McCallie School, an all-boys school in Chattanooga, after completing elementary school at Saint Nicholas School, also in Chattanooga. Benjamin Curtis (September 23, 1978 – December 29, 2013) was an American guitarist. He was a member of bands Tripping Daisy, Secret Machines and School of Seven Bells. History Curtis cited guitarists such as Michael Rother, Yoshimi P-We, and The Edge of U2 as some of his primary influences on guitar.
