Belém Air Force Base
Base Aérea de Belém – ALA9 is a base of the Brazilian Air Force, located in Belém, Brazil. It shares some facilities with Val-de-Cans/Júlio Cezar Ribeiro International Airport. History Belém Air Force Base has its origins on the 7th Aviation Regiment created on 30 June 1936. The provisory facility was located in the neighborhood ou Souza and it was only in 1938 that the construction of an aerodrome in the neighborhood of Val-de-Cans begun. The Air Force Base was created on 21 August 1944 by Decree 6,814. Starting in 1958, with the creation of the ''Correio Aéreo Nacional da Amazônia'' in Belém, an Air Force organization focused in integration and humanitarian services, the Base gained vital importance as a base for the integration of the Amazonian region with the rest of the country. Belém (; Portuguese for Bethlehem; initially called Nossa Senhora de Belém do Grão-Pará, in English Our Lady of Bethlehem of Great Pará) often called Belém of Pará, is a Brazilian city, capital and largest city of the state of Pará in the country's north. The Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia is a twin-turboprop 30-passenger commuter airliner designed and manufactured by the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. The EMB 120 began development during 1974. While initially conceived as a modular series of aircraft, the ''Family 12X'' and referred to as the ''Araguaia'', intending to achieve a high level of commonality with the EMB 121 Xingu, the aircraft was redesigned and relaunched with the ''Brasilia'' name scheme during 1979. The redesign, which drew on operator feedback, reduced the seating capacity somewhat while removing commonality with the EMB 121. DAFIF () or the ''Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File'' is a comprehensive database of up-to-date aeronautical data, including information on airports, airways, airspaces, navigation data, and other facts relevant to flying in the entire world, managed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) of the United States. Withdrawal of public access DAFIF was publicly available until October 2006 through the Internet; however, it was closed to public access because "increased numbers of foreign source providers are claiming intellectual property rights or are forewarning NGA that they intend to copyright their source". Currently, only federal and state government agencies, authorized government contractors, and Department of Defense customers are able to access the DAFIF data. The Eurocopter EC725 Caracal, now called Airbus Helicopters H225M, is a long-range tactical transport military helicopter developed from the Eurocopter AS532 Cougar for military use. Belém/Val-de-Cans International Airport
Val-de-Cans/Júlio Cezar Ribeiro International Airport is the main airport serving Belém, Brazil. Val de Cans (sometimes spelled Val de Cães) is the name of the neighborhood where the airport is located. Since 13 April 2010, the airport is named also after Júlio Cezar Ribeiro de Souza (1837–1887) a researcher of balloons. During a transitional period, the airport is jointly operated by Infraero and Consortium Novo Norte. Some of its facilities are shared with Belém Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force.
