Wind Power In Belgium
Wind power in Belgium depends partially on regional governments (Brussels-Capital Region, Flemish Region, Walloon Region) and partially on the Belgian federal government. Wind energy producers in both the Flemish and Walloon regions get green certificates but not with the same conditions. By year end 2020 Belgium had 4,670 MW installed capacity of windpower, 2,408 MW of which were land based and 2,262 MW of offshore wind power producing a total of 10.8 TWh of electricity generation. The percentage of electricity demand met by wind grew to about 13.3% by end 2020. Wind turbines are installed offshore and onshore, mainly in the Flemish and in the Walloon Regions. Brussels-Capital Region is an urban area which is not particularly suited for large wind turbines. Smaller turbines more appropriate for urban environments are being studied but until today no technology is deemed sufficiently efficient. Installed capacity and generation Land based installed wind capacity grew to 2 ...

Thorntonbank Wind Farm
The Thorntonbank Wind Farm is an offshore wind farm, off the Belgian coast, in water ranging from deep. Electricity production started in early 2009, with a capacity of 30 MW. The capacity was increased to a total of 214 MW in 2012 and 325 MW in 2013. Phases First phase The first phase was built by C-Power and consists of six REpower offshore wind turbines of 5 MW capacity on the Thornton sandbank, at a cost of €153 million.Thorntonbank (Belgium) offshore wind farm

Econcern
Econcern was an international holding company, consisting of five operating companies: Ecofys, Evelop, Ecostream, Ecoventures and OneCarbon. These companies delivered solutions for renewable energy (solar energy, wind energy, bioenergy) and carbon credits, with a mission to "ensure a sustainable energy supply for everyone". Econcern employed 1,200 professionals in over 20 countries across the world. Bankruptcy In May 2009 Econcern filed for Dutch Chapter 11 for suspension of payments, the first step towards bankruptcy, after it failed to agree on refinancing terms on a €150 million corporate loan which matured on 1 April 2009. An administrator was appointed by a Dutch court to work with the board to try to identify new financing solutions. At stake were assets under development, such as the Belwind The Belwind Wind Farm is located on Bligh Bank, from the Belgian port of Zeebrugge, and has been built in two phases. The company originated as Ecotècnia S.c.c.l., a Spanish wind power equipment manufacturing and installation company established in 1981, acquired by Alstom 2007 for €350 million. The subsidiary's main product is the 14MW Haliade-X offshore wind turbine, amongst the most powerful on Earth. History Ecotècnia, 1987-2007 Ecotècnia was a manufacturer and installer of wind turbines established in 1981, headquartered in Barcelona, Spain. Wind Farms In Belgium
Wind is the natural movement of air or other gases relative to a planet's surface. Winds occur on a range of scales, from thunderstorm flows lasting tens of minutes, to local breezes generated by heating of land surfaces and lasting a few hours, to global winds resulting from the difference in absorption of solar energy between the climate zones on Earth. The two main causes of large-scale atmospheric circulation are the differential heating between the equator and the poles, and the rotation of the planet (Coriolis effect). Within the tropics and subtropics, thermal low circulations over terrain and high plateaus can drive monsoon circulations. In coastal areas the sea breeze/land breeze cycle can define local winds; in areas that have variable terrain, mountain and valley breezes can prevail. Winds are commonly classified by their spatial scale, their speed and direction, the forces that cause them, the regions in which they occur, and their effect. Winds have various aspe ...

Elia System Operator
Elia is a Belgian transmission system operator for high-voltage electricity (30,000–380,000 volts), located in Brussels, Belgium. It operates in Belgium and Germany. The company transmits electricity from generators to distribution system operators, which then supply SMEs and homes. Elia also has contracts with major industrial users that directly connect to its high-voltage grid. Elia's main activities include managing grid infrastructure (maintaining and developing high-voltage installations), managing the electrical system (monitoring flows, maintaining the balance between electricity consumption and generation 24/7, importing and exporting to and from neighbouring countries) and facilitating the market (developing services and mechanisms with a view to developing the electricity market at national and European level). Elia Group also offers consulting and engineering services through a subsidiary Elia Grid International (EGI), founded in 2014. History Elia was created as ...
