Burkey Belser is an American graphic designer. He is best known for his design of the Nutrition facts label, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandated food labeling system that appears on all packaged foods in the United States, which has been called by some "the most frequently reproduced graphic in the world." He is also widely known for the pioneering work in legal advertising that earned him a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Legal Marketing Association as well as induction into that organization's Hall of Fame. Biography He was born July 8, 1947 in Columbia, South Carolina. The Belser family has been long-established in the South, with Christian Belser (1752–1812) arriving in Charleston from Baden-Baden, Duchy of Württemberg in 1787. A family plantation, Sunnyside on Edisto, South Carolina, has been exclusively in family hands from the Mikell side of the family for over 300 years. James Edwin Belser
James Edwin Belser (December 22, 1800 – January 16, 1854) was a slave owner and U.S. Representative from Alabama. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Belser attended the public schools. In 1820 he moved with his parents to Sumter District, South Carolina, where he continued his schooling under a private tutor; his parents operated a major slave plantation of over 3000 acres and 50 slaves. He moved to Alabama in 1825 and settled in Montgomery. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Montgomery. Belser was elected clerk of the county court. He served as member of the State house of representatives in 1828. He also edited the Planters Gazette for several years. He was appointed solicitor of Montgomery County in 1828 and later elected to that position. He was appointed by Governor Fitzpatrick in 1842 as a commissioner of the State to procure a settlement of the claims against the Federal Government for money advanced in the Indian War of 1836. Caesar Belser
Caesar Edward Belser (September 13, 1944 – March 5, 2016) was an American football linebacker and safety who played in the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL). He is the father of Jason Belser. He played college football at the Arkansas AM&N, and professionally in the AFL and the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs and later the San Francisco 49ers. Belser died on the weekend of March 5, 2016, according to his family. He was 71. He was battling lung cancer, as well as neurological damage from playing football. Per his family's wishes, his brain will be donated to scientific research. Jason Belser
Jason Daks Belser (born May 28, 1970) is a former American football defensive back in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners football, Oklahoma Sooners. He played high school football at Raytown South High School in Raytown, Missouri. He is currently the head football coach at Freedom High School (Loudoun County, Virginia), Freedom High School in South Riding, Virginia.
