Beloved (novel)
''Beloved'' is a 1987 novel by American novelist Toni Morrison. Set in the period after the American Civil War, the novel tells the story of a dysfunctional family of formerly enslaved people whose Cincinnati home is haunted by a malevolent spirit. The narrative of ''Beloved'' derives from the life of Margaret Garner, an enslaved person in the slave state of Kentucky who escaped and fled to the free state of Ohio in 1856. Garner was subject to capture under the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, and when U.S. marshals broke into the cabin where she and her husband had barricaded themselves, she was attempting to kill her children—and had already killed her youngest daughter—in hopes of sparing them from being returned to slavery. Morrison's main inspiration for the novel was an account of the event titled "A Visit to the Slave Mother who Killed Her Child" in an 1856 newspaper article initially published in the ''American Baptist'' and reproduced in ''The Black Book'', an antholog ...

The album was streamed on Alternative Press's website on 5 February 2014. This is the first album from the band since its reformation along with three new members, Jamie Hope (vocals), Shane O'Brien (drums) and Benjamin Coyte (bass). Critical reception At ''Alternative Press'', Dan Slessor rated the album four stars out of five stars, stating that "the finished product more than justifies the wait." Andrew Kapper of About.com concluded that "Beloved is without doubt a strong comeback for the band, but it does have a couple of weak points in the armor, both of which fall into the same category. However, Roc ...

This song is about that. I'd never sat with anyone as they died before, and it had an effect on me. As it does everyone I know who has experienced it. But there's wildness and beauty in it as well, and a deep honoring, that became the beginnings of this song that we worked up called 'Beloved'. I feel determined for people to take whatever they want from it, and not to be emotionally prescriptive." Composition A ballad, its sound recalls the band's upbringing in the London underground folk and Americana scene. The Beloved (Rossetti Painting)
''The Beloved'' (also ''The Bride'') is an oil painting on canvas by the English artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828 – 1882), now in Tate Britain, London. Rossetti signed his initials (as a monogram) and the date as "1865-6" on the bottom left of the canvas. It depicts the bride, or "beloved", from the '' Song of Solomon'' in the Hebrew Bible as she approaches her bridegroom, with her attendants.
