Beloit Memorial High School
Beloit Memorial High School is a public, four-year comprehensive high school in Beloit, Wisconsin. Academics Beloit Memorial has an enrollment of approximately 1,700 students, with 120 full-time certified staff and an average class size of 28 students. The school has a charter school complex, The Hendricks Education Center, which is located across the Rock River from Beloit Memorial. Hendricks enrolls over 200 students and has an online learning facility, an auto body shop, and a cafeteria. Extracurricular activities Newspaper Beloit Memorial supports the state's oldest high school newspaper, the monthly ''Increscent'', founded in 1894. Beloit, Wisconsin
Beloit is a city in Rock County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 36,657 people. History Twelve men in Colebrook, New Hampshire, created the "New England Emigrating Company" in October 1836 and sent Horace White to find a suitable region of Wisconsin in which to settle. The level fields and the water power of Turtle Creek and "unlimited gravel" in the area around what is now Beloit fixed the site of the village and farms. White purchased the land. At the same time as the Colebrook settlers, six families from Bedford, New Hampshire, arrived and settled in the region. They said the Rock River Valley had a "New England look" that made them feel at home. The village was platted in 1838 and was planned with wide streets, building on the New England model. Gerald Tennyson Kenney (born June 30, 1945) is an American former Major League Baseball infielder. He is from Beloit, Wisconsin. Baseball career The second hit of his major league career was an inside-the-park home run with the New York Yankees in 1967. He played for the Yankees in 120 games or more in 1969, 1970 and 1971. He also had appearances for the Yankees in 1967 and 1972. He, along with John Ellis, Charlie Spikes and Rusty Torres, was traded from the Yankees to the Cleveland Indians for Graig Nettles and Jerry Moses at the Winter Meetings on November 27, 1972. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Gary Johnson (Wisconsin Politician)
Gary K. Johnson (September 14, 1939August 8, 2008) was an American educator and Democratic politician. He served 14 years in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing southern Rock County, and was majority leader from 1980 until 1985. After leaving the Assembly, he worked for a time as Assistant Superintendent in the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Early life and career Born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, he moved to Beloit, Wisconsin, with his family as a child. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Beloit College in 1963. Afterwards, he went back to Beloit Memorial High School as a social studies teacher. William Henry Hanzlik (born December 6, 1957) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. College career A 6'7" guard, Hanzlik played college basketball at the University of Notre Dame. He was selected for the 1980 US Men's Olympic Team, which did not compete due to the US's boycott of the Moscow Games. However, in 2007 he did receive one of 461 Congressional Gold Medals created especially for the spurned athletes. Franklin Clarke (February 7, 1934 – July 25, 2018) was an American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Colorado. Early years Clarke was named after Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States. He attended Beloit Memorial High School where he received All-state honors in football and track. He clocked 49.9 seconds in the 440-yard dash. After attending Trinidad State Junior College for two years, where he had a successful career, he became the first African-American varsity football player at the University of Colorado at Boulder, joining the Buffaloes in September 1954.
