Bellpuig
Bellpuig () is a town in the ''comarca'' (county) of l'Urgell in Catalonia, Spain. Nowadays Bellpuig is the third most important town in the area of Urgell. The town, located between the three little hills appearing in the flag, is served by Bellpuig railway station. People Bellpuig in 1487 was the birthplace of Ramón de Cardona, Baron of Bellpuig, Count of Alvito and Duke of Somma (in Catalan Ramon Folc III de Cardona-Anglesola). He was a Catalan general of the Holy League troops and viceroy of Naples from 1509 to 1522. His funeral monument is in Bellpuig, where the body was transported nine years after his death on 10 March 1522. The monument was designed and built by Giovanni da Nola and Genoese master sculptors, it is one of the most important examples of Renaissance art in Spain. Ramón De Cardona
Ramon Folc de Cardona i Anglesola (Italian: ''Raimondo di Cardona'') (1467 – 10 March 1522) was a Catalan general and politician, who served as the viceroy of Naples during the Italian Wars and commanded the Spanish forces in Italy during the War of the League of Cambrai. He was granted the title count of Oliveto in the Kingdom of Naples, on 12 December 1515. Biography The son of Antoni de Cardona-Anglesola i Centelles and Castellana de Requesens, he was 5th Baron of Bellpuig, Baron of Linyola and Baron of Utxafava, all three places in Catalonia. Ramón de Cardona was born in Bellpuig, to one of the greatest families in the Crown of Aragon, the Cardona. Anglesola
Anglesola is a village in the province of Lleida and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. Population According to data from 2006, Anglesola had a population of 1303 inhabitants. History Anglesola was first mentioned in 1079, in a document in which Ramón Berenguer II and Berenguer Ramón II ceded the lands to Berenguer Gombau for its repopulation. It became the center of the barony of Anglesola, decisive in the Catalan reconquest. The lineage of the barony took the name of the castle. From the twelfth century, it was divided into three branches: the Lords of Vallbona, Lords of Bellpuig and Lords of Anglesola. In 1097, the church in the village was cited for the first time. Lleida (province)
The Province of Lleida (; Aranese Occitan: Lhèida ; es, Lérida ) is one of the four provinces of Catalonia. This is a list of the 42 ''comarques'' (singular ''comarca'', , ) into which Catalonia is divided. A ''comarca'' is a group of municipalities, roughly equivalent to a county in the US or a district or council in the UK. However, in the context of Catalonia, the term "county" can be a bit misleading, because in medieval Catalonia, aside from the kings of Aragon, the most important rulers were counts, notably the Counts of Barcelona and of Urgell. Comarques have no particular relation to the "counties" that were ruled by counts.
