Bellmore is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population according to the 2010 census was 16,218. Bellmore is located on the south shore of Long Island 5 miles from Jones Beach State Park, approximately east of Manhattan, and east of the Nassau-Queens (New York City) Line. Bellmore, along with North Bellmore, are referred to collectively as "The Bellmores". The part of the latter area south of Merrick Road (or possibly south of Sunrise Highway) is sometimes called "South Bellmore". Bellmore serves as a suburb of New York City on Long Island. Penn Station in Manhattan is typically a 45-minute direct ride from the station on the L ong Island Rail Road's Babylon Branch. John F. North Bellmore is a census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 19,941 at the 2010 census. North Bellmore, along with Bellmore, are referred to collectively as "The Bellmores". Also, the part of the latter area south of Merrick Road (or possibly south of Sunrise Highway) is sometimes called "South Bellmore". Both serve as suburbs of New York. Demographics As of the census of 2010, there were 19,949 people, 6,365 households, and 5,407 families residing within the CDP. The population density was 7,696.6 per square mile (2,970.3/km2). There were 6,818 housing units at an average density of 2,542.9/sq mi (981.4/km2). Bellmore Station
Bellmore is a station on the Babylon Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. It is located on the north side of Sunrise Highway between Bedford and Centre Avenues in Bellmore, New York, however the actual land area occupied by the station's several parking lots begins west of Centre Avenue and continues east of Bellmore Avenue. History Bellmore station was established by the South Side Railroad of Long Island in October 1869, and the original structure was replaced sometime in the early-20th century. As with many other ground-level stations along the Babylon Branch in Nassau and Western Suffolk counties which had been elevated during the 1950s and 1960s, preliminary work began on February 18, 1968, to raise the tracks in Bellmore. Like Merrick station, temporary facilities containing a ticket window and a waiting room opened on December 4, 1970, but the elevated station wasn't completed until June 28, 1975.
