Belarus In The Eurovision Song Contest 2009
Belarus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Eyes That Never Lie" written by Petr Elfimov and Valery Prokhozhy. The song was performed by Petr Elfimov. The Belarusian entry for the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia was selected through the national final ''Eurofest 2009'', organised by the Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). The national final was a televised production which consisted of a semi-final and a final held on 15 December 2008 and 19 January 2009, respectively. Fifteen competing acts participated in the semi-final where the top five entries as determined by a jury panel qualified to the final. In the final, public televoting selected "Eyes That Never Lie" performed by Petr Elfimov as the winner with 11,475 votes. Petr Petrovich Elfimov ( be, Пётр Ялфімаў, ''Piotr Jalfimaŭ'', russian: Пётр Елфимов, ''Pyotr Yelfimov'') is a singer from Belarus who represented his nation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, Russia. He won the national selection of Belarus on 19 January 2009 with the rock/pop song ''Eyes That Never Lie''. The song competed in the first semi-final as the fourth act. On 16 May it failed to win a place in the final, finishing 13th of 18 acts, receiving a total of 25 points. However, he has participated in the contest in the past as one of the backing singers for Aleksandra and Konstantin in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, 2004 contest. Macedonia (officially under the provisional appellation "former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia", abbreviated "FYR Macedonia") participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song " Nešto što kje ostane" written by Jovan Jovanov, Damjan Lazarov and Elvir Mekić.
