Beirne, Arkansas
Beirne is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in southern Clark County, Arkansas, United States. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 36. It is located southwest of Gurdon, at . History Beirne was first settled in 1880 by James Lewis Beirne of Grafton, Illinois on that he had purchased. Within a year there was a planing mill and a store, along with a railroad depot to serve the area. In 1890 the community was known alternately as Beirne or Beirne Station. By 1897, Beirne had at least two saw mills that made lumber for furniture and other uses. Lumber is still the main industry in Beirne, with Anthony Timberlands having their hardwood operation there. Byrnside-Beirne-Johnson House
Byrnside-Beirne-Johnson House, also known as "Willowbrook," is a historic home located near Union, Monroe County, West Virginia. The house began as a pioneer log fort built by six families in 1770. After 1855, it was enlarged to a large 2½-story, five-bay, "T"-shaped dwelling with a two-story rear wing. It is covered with board-and-batten siding in the Gothic Revival style. The front features a two-story gable end porch built about 1900. Also on the property is a contributing smokehouse. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The eastern log structure in the home was originally known as Byrnside's (or Burnside's) Fort. James Byrnside was clearly an important person in the early settlement and defense of the area, having come into the sinks of Monroe area in the early 1760s and again in 1769 or 1770, having been burned out in 1763. Walter Beirne
Walter Herbert Beirne (4 September 1907 – 29 October 1959) was an Irish trade union leader. Born in Newbridge, County Kildare, the son of Patrick Joseph Beirne, a sergeant with the Royal Irish Constabulary, and Margaret Mary Catherine Clinch, Beirne was educated at Newbridge College before becoming an assistant in a grocery. He joined the Irish National Union of Vintners', Grocers' and Allied Trades Assistants (INUVGATA), and soon began working full-time for the union as a clerk. In 1937, after only two years, he was appointed as the union's general secretary, initially focusing on improving its financial position. Liam Ó Beirne was born at Milltown, County Galway in August 1871 in the townland of Carrownageehy to Thomas and Bridget (née Quinn) Beirne. Irish was the spoken language at home. Beirne attended Ballindine National School in Co. Mayo. After completing his primary educating, Beirne attended St Jarlath's College in Tuam. Oliver Beirne (March 26, 1811 - April 21, 1888) was a landowner from West Virginia, one of the owner of the Old Sweet Springs resort, and sole heir to plantation millionaire John Burnside, of whom he was a longtime friend. Early life Oliver Beirne was born on March 26, 1811, the son of Andrew Beirne (1771–1845) and Eleanor "Ellen" Grey Keenan (1779–1824). Career Beirne partnered with John Burnside in a mercantile business established in New Orleans in 1837. Kevin Patrick Beirne (born January 1, 1974) is a former professional baseball pitcher. He is the son of Jim Beirne, who played with the Houston Oilers and San Diego Chargers of the NFL from 1968 to 1976. Career Beirne was a star outfielder and wide receiver for McCullough High School in The Woodlands, TX where he was a teammate of future NFL player Larry Izzo. In 1989 as a sophomore, Beirne caught 18 passes in a game against Westfield High School, at the time placing him second all-time in Texas high school football history for receptions in a single game.
