Ulli Beier
Chief Horst Ulrich Beier, commonly known as Ulli Beier (30 July 1922 – 3 April 2011), was a German editor, writer and scholar who had a pioneering role in developing literature, drama and poetry in Nigeria, as well as literature, drama and poetry in Papua New Guinea. Early life and education Ulli Beier was born to a Jewish family in Glowitz, Weimar Germany (modern Główczyce, Poland), in July 1922. His father was a medical doctor and an appreciator of art, who reared his son to embrace the arts. After the Nazi party's rise to power in the 1930s, his father was forced to close his medical practice. The Beiers, who were non-practising Jews, left for Palestine. In Palestine, while his family were briefly detained as enemy aliens by the British authorities, Ulli Beier earned a BA as an external student from the University of London. Christina Beier (born June 9, 1984 in Manila, Philippines) is a Filipino born German former competitive ice dancer. She competed with her brother William Beier. She briefly stopped competing with her brother and competed with partner Tim Giesen for one season. Beier & Beier are four-time (2005–2006, 2008, 2010) German national champions. Career The Beiers moved from the Philippines to Germany in 1990. Christina Beier began skating when she was seven. She was a singles skater for two years and then took up ice dancing with her brother William Beier. They were the 2005–2006 and 2008 and 2010 German national champions. They did not compete in 2006/2007 season because Christina was suffering from a foot injury. In February 2008 they withdrew from the 2008 World Championships because of injury. William Beier (born November 2, 1982 in Manila, Philippines) is a Filipino born German former competitive ice dancer. He competed with his sister, Christina Beier. They are four-time (2005–2006, 2008, 2010) German national champions, and represented Germany in the 2010 Winter Olympics. The Beiers moved from the Philippines to Germany in 1990. Eugene Beier
Eugene William Beier (born 30 January 1940 in Harvey, Illinois) is an American physicist. Beier received in 1961 his bachelor's degree from Stanford University and in 1963 his M.S. and in 1966 his Ph.D., with advisor Louis J. Koester Jr., from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign with thesis ''A search for heavy leptons using a differential Cherenkov counter''. He became in 1967 an assistant professor and in 1979 a full professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Beier has worked, since the end of the 1970s, on neutrino physics, first at Brookhaven National Laboratory (Experiment 734) and then, starting in 1984, on the science team of Kamiokande II. Karin Beier
Karin Beier (born 1965 in Cologne) is a German theatre director. After studying English in Cologne, Karin Beier moved into theatre. She established an English language theatre and staged Shakespeare plays in their source language. Theatres began to grow in popularity, and she became the director of the Düsseldorf Theatre. Here she was able to display her first professional theatre production. In Düsseldorf she studied under Iraqi director David Mouchtar-Samorai. After her 1994 production of ''Romeo and Juliet'' she was invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen and granted an award by the leading German theater magazine ''Theater heute''. Max Beier (6 April 1903 in Spittal an der Drau – 4 July 1979 in Vienna) was an Austrian arachnologist and entomologist. He studied zoology at the University of Vienna, and obtained his doctorate there in 1927. He took up a post at the Natural History Museum, Vienna, Natural History Museum in Vienna, in the same year, developing an expertise in pseudoscorpions. He was appointed Director of the zoological department of the Vienna Museum in 1962, and retired in 1968. Beier Variable-ratio Gear
The Beier variable-ratio gear or Beier variator is a mechanical drive offering a continuously variable gear ratio between input and output. The gear relies on the inter-meshing of a number of thin disks. By varying their separation, the effective radius of one disk varies, thus changing the overall gear ratio. This varying-radius principle is shared by a number of other variator mechanisms. An advantage of the Beier is that a large number of disks may be stacked on a common shaft, thus increasing its torque capacity for only a small increase in overall length. The mechanism consists of a spring-loaded stack of thin disks on a central shaft. Around this are arranged other stacked disk packs on a number of planetary shafts, usually three. These shafts are mounted on swinging arms, so that they may be moved in and out together. The central disks are thin, with a thickened rim. Albert Beier (28 September 1900 – 21 September 1972) was a German footballer. He was a physically inclined, robustly built player. Beier was born in Lokstedt, and started his footballing career at Eintracht Lokstedt, before moving to FC Union 1903 Altona and Hamburger SV. His first success came with a North German championship victory. He also reached the German championship final against 1. FC Nürnberg. After to draws, Hamburg was awarded the title, but renounced it. Karl Emil Oskar Beier (29 November 1893, Vápenná – 12 May 1985, Fulda) was a German Nazi politician and SS-Sturmbannführer (Major) during the German occupation of Czechoslovakia (1938–1945).
