Behrouz Boroumand
Behrouz Boroumand ( fa, بهروز برومند) is an Iranian physician and political activist. Early life and education Boroumand was born in Qaemshahr, Mazandaran province, and obtained his medical degree from University of Tehran Medical School. He did his residency in Hackensack, New Jersey and District of Columbia General Hospital, and gained a fellowship in nephrology and nephropathology at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Medical career During the 1970s, Boroumand worked at the 'National Dialysis and Transplant Committee' of health ministry and collaborated in the first kidney transplantation service in Iran. From 1976 to 1980, he was the president of 'Iranian Society of Nephrology' and office he holds for the second spell since 2000. He is acclaimed as "the founder and leader of kidney disease treatment in the Middle East" by the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), and received the society's Pioneer Award in 2014. Qaemshahr
Qaem Shahr ( fa, قائمشهر, also Romanized as Qā’em Shahr; formerly known as Shāhi ( fa, شاهی) is a city and capital of Qaem Shahr County, Mazandaran Province, Iran. At the 2016 census, its population was 247,953. Originally known as Aliyabad, the name Ŝâhi (Shahi) was used until the Iranian Revolution in 1979 when the city acquired its current name. The city is situated north-east of Tehran; southeast of Babol; and south west of Sari which is the capital of Mazandaran province. In 1951, Qa'em Shahr's population was around 18,000, growing to 123,684 in 1991. International Society Of Nephrology
The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) is an organization concerned with kidney health. Introduction The ISN has over 9,000 professional members from more than 156 countries. In addition, the ISN closely collaborates with over 100 national and regional nephrology societies around the world, representing about 40,000 professionals. In 1992 the society formed a task force to provide emergency dialysis services in areas struck by disasters (usually earthquakes), where numerous victims may develop acute kidney injury due to crush syndrome.
