Battle Of The Vozha River
Battle of the Vozha River (Russian Битва на реке Воже) was a battle fought between the Grand Duchy of Moscow and the Golden Horde on 11 August 1378. Mamai sought to punish the Russians for disobedience. The Russians were led by Prince Dmitri Ivanovich of Moscow, who had not yet received his nickname Donskoi. The Tatars were commanded by murza Begich. The two armies met near the river Vozha, a tributary of the Oka. After successful reconnaissance Dmitri managed to block the ford which the Tatars intended to use for the crossing of the river. He occupied a good position for his troops on a hill. The Russians' formation had a shape of a bow with Donskoy leading the center and the flanks under the command of Timofey Velyaminov and Andrei of Polotsk. After waiting a long time, Begich decided to cross the river and to encircle the Russians from both sides. Joseph Begich
Joseph Richard Begich (January 17, 1930 – August 10, 2019) was an American politician in the state of Minnesota. He was born in Eveleth, Minnesota. He was an alumnus of the Northwest School of Agriculture, and was a grain and livestock farmer. Begich served in the United States Army. He served as mayor of Eveleth, Minnesota, from 1965 to 1974, when he was elected to the Minnesota Legislature. He served in the House of Representatives for District 6A from 1975 to 1982 and for District 6B from 1983 to 1992. He was married to Carolyn and had one daughter. Nicholas Joseph Begich Sr. (born April 6, 1932 – disappeared October 16, 1972; declared dead December 29, 1972) was an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Alaska. He is presumed to have died in the crash of a light aircraft in Alaska in 1972; his body was never found. He was a member of the Democratic Party. The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) was initiated as an ionosphere, ionospheric research program jointly funded by the United States Air Force, U.S. Air Force, the United States Navy, U.S. Navy, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). It was designed and built by BAE Systems, BAE Advanced Technologies. The November 2022 United States House of Representatives election in Alaska was held on Tuesday November 8, to elect a member of the United States House of Representatives to represent the state of Alaska. Democratic incumbent Mary Peltola won reelection to a full term in office, defeating Republicans Sarah Palin and Nick Begich III and Libertarian Chris Bye in the runoff count. Following voter approval of Ballot Measure 2 during the 2020 elections in Alaska, this was the second U.S. House election in Alaska held under the new election process, after the special election for the same seat on August 16, 2022, where Peltola was elected to succeed Republican Don Young, who died on March 18, 2022. All candidates ran in a nonpartisan blanket top-four primary on the same day as the special election, with each voter casting a single vote for their preferred candidate. Mark Begich
Mark Peter Begich ( ; born March 30, 1962) is an American politician who served as a United States senator from Alaska from 2009 to 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as Mayor of Anchorage from 2003 to 2009. Born in Anchorage, Begich is the son of former U.S. Representative Nick Begich Sr. He was elected to the Anchorage Assembly at the age of 26. He eventually served as chairman for three years, before leaving the Assembly in 1998. Begich ran two unsuccessful campaigns for Mayor of Anchorage in 1994 and 2000 before being elected in 2003. Thomas Scott Begich (born October 31, 1960) is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Alaska Senate. He has represented District J since January 2017, was elected twice without general election opposition, and in 2022 his district was redistricted. Begich Towers
The Begich Towers Condominium is a building in the small city of Whittier, Alaska. The structure is notable for being the residence for nearly the entire population of the city as well as containing many of its public facilities. This has earned Whittier the nickname of a "town under one roof". History The area where modern-day Whittier sits was developed during World War II, when it was chosen as the place to build a military Seaport, harbor and a logistics base for the US Army. After the war, the military planned to develop a large complex in the area. What is now the Begich Towers was part of that plan. The building was designed in 1953 to host the headquarters of the US Army Corps of Engineers.
