Anne Claire Poirier
Anne Claire Poirier O.C. (born 6 June 1932) is a Canadian film producer, director and screenwriter. Biography Poirier was born in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. She was the only female filmmaker on the National Film Board of Canada in the 1960s and 1970s. Her first film, the black and white surrealist fictional documentary ''De mère en fille'' (1968), critiques social codes of motherhood and investigates the psychological experience of pregnancy. The film had a significant influence on the nascent feminist movement in Canada. ''De mère en fille'' is the first feature film ever directed by a French-Canadian woman. Poirier's film '' Mourir à tue-tête'' competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival. ''Mourir à tue-tête,'' which aboards the subject of rape, remains Poirier's best known film. Her 1974 film ''Les Filles du Roi'' explores a history of masculinity in Quebec. Marthe Blackburn
Marthe Blackburn, née Morisset (1916 - 1991) was a Canadian screenwriter from Quebec. A television writer for Radio-Canada and later a film writer for the National Film Board of Canada, she was most noted for her collaborations with director Anne Claire Poirier. Blackburn and Poirier were Genie Award nominees for Best Original Screenplay at the 1st Genie Awards in 1980 for '' A Scream from Silence (Mourir à tue-tête)''. The International Critics' Week (french: Semaine de la Critique) was founded in 1962 and is organized by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics. It was created following the showing of '' The Connection'' directed by Shirley Clarke which had been organized by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics for the 1961 Cannes Film Festival. Gerald Arthur Pratley (September 3, 1923 – March 14, 2011) was a Canadian film critic and historian. Piers Handling"Gerald Arthur Pratley" ''The Canadian Encyclopedia'', September 18, 2011.
