Beer In Jordan
Beer in Jordan has existed since its first introduction in the region thousands of years ago in ancient Iraq and ancient Egypt; today the country has several companies producing beer. Modern history The first brewery in Jordan was the General Investment Company (GIC), which was established in 1955 as a public company called "Jordan Brewery Co. Ltd." In 1958, built the first Amstel beer factory outside the Netherlands, established in Zarqa. In 1964, GIC introduced Petra, the oldest local brew of Jordan. It is available in 3 different varieties—Lager, Weizen and Amber—and is brewed in Zarqa. Petra is known for its high alcohol content, 8% alcohol by volume (ABV) for regular or 10% for Petra Premium. Amstel remains the most consumed beer in Jordan, followed by Petra. Petra is brewed from barley and is made in Zarqa. Amstel Brewery
Amstel Brewery ( nl, Amstelbrouwerij, ) is a Dutch brewery founded in 1870 on the Mauritskade in Amsterdam. It was taken over by Heineken International in 1968, and the brewing plant closed down in 1982, with production moving to the main Heineken plant at Zoeterwoude. History The brewery was founded by Charles Antoine de Pesters (1842-1915), Johannes Hendrikus van Marwijk Kooy (1847-1916) and Willem Eduard Uhlenbroek (1839-1880). De Pesters and Van Marwijk Kooy were brothers-in-law, both coming from very affluent Amsterdam families. Uhlenbroek's father owned a small sugar refinery in Amsterdam. Zarqa ( ar, الزرقاء) is the capital of Zarqa Governorate in Jordan. Its name means "the blue (city)". It had a population of 635,160 inhabitants in 2015, and is the most populous city in Jordan after Amman. Geography Zarqa is located in the Zarqa River basin in northeast Jordan. Carakale Brewery is a Jordanian microbrewery founded in 2010 in the town of Fuheis near Amman by Yazan Karadsheh, a member of the local Christian community. The brewery is named after Caracal, a mammal that is native to Jordan. History Carakale was Jordan's first microbrewery and its first production beer was a Blond Ale, blond ale of the same name intended to serve as entry-level brew for the Jordanian domestic market, which was unacquainted with craft beer culture. Fuheis
Fuheis ( ar, الفحيص) is a Christian majority town in the central Jordanian governorate of Balqa. It lies in Wadi Shueib between Salt and Amman, at a distance of 6 and 13 kilometers respectively. It has an elevation between 740-1050 meters above mean sea level. The population of Fuheis was estimated to be 21,908 in 2021, 87% are Jordanian citizens, 95% are Christians, and with a male-to-female ratio of 52:48. According to a national census in 2015, the population was 18,916, there were 4,658 households in the town with an average of 4.06 persons per household, lower than the national average of 4.82 persons per household.
