Beckwourth Complex Fire
The Beckwourth Complex was a wildfire complex that burned in the Plumas National Forest in Plumas and Lassen counties. The two major fires of the complex, the Dotta Fire and the Sugar Fire, started on June 30 and July 2 northeast of Beckwourth, California. Started by lightning strikes, the two fires collectively burned . The complex resulted in the evacuation of numerous residential areas and the closure of portions of Plumas National Forest. In the community of Doyle, California, 33 homes were destroyed. Beckwourth (formerly, Beckwith and Beekwith) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plumas County, California, United States. Beckwourth is located on the Middle Fork Feather River east of Portola. The population was 432 at the 2010 census, up from 342 at the 2000 census. Name The community was named for James P. Beckwourth, an explorer who discovered Beckwourth Pass in 1851. State Route 284 (SR 284) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that serves as a spur route off of State Route 70 in Chilcoot in Plumas County, connecting to Frenchman Lake. 2021 California Wildfires
The 2021 California wildfire season was a series of wildfires that burned across the state of California. As of December 16, 2021, a total of 8,619 fires have been recorded, burning across the state. At least 3,629 buildings have been destroyed by the wildfires, and at least seven firefighters and two civilians have been injured battling the fires. The wildfire season in California experienced an unusually early start amid an ongoing drought and historically low rainfall and reservoir levels. In January 2021 alone, 297 fires burned on nonfederal land according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, which is almost triple the number of fires and more than 20 times the acreage of the five-year average for January. Hug High School
Procter R. Hug High School is a fully accredited public high school in Reno, Nevada, and belongs to the Washoe County School District. Hug High was built on a hillside in east Reno in 1968 to serve students from rapidly growing areas. Like many other local schools, Hug High was named for a member of the local school board. The high school was named for Procter Hug Sr., a college athlete, teacher, athletic coach and Washoe County School Superintendent who went on after retirement to serve as a Nevada State Senator. Dixie Fire
The Dixie Fire was an enormous wildfire in Butte, Plumas, Lassen, Shasta, and Tehama Counties, California. It was named after Dixie Road, near where the fire started in Butte County. The fire began in the Feather River Canyon near Cresta Dam on July 13, 2021, and burned before being 100% contained on October 25, 2021. It was the largest single (i.e. non-complex) wildfire in recorded California history, and the second-largest wildfire overall (after the August Complex fire of 2020). The fire damaged or destroyed several small towns or communities, including Greenville on August 4, Canyondam on August 5, and Warner Valley on August 12. Flanigan is a ghost town and former crossroads village in Washoe County, Nevada, in the United States. It is located in Honey Lake Valley, east of the California border (Lassen County), and west of Pyramid Lake. Flanigan is located in a high desert region, mostly alkali flats with some sagebrush and cheatgrass. Flanigan Playa is located south of the Flanigan townsite. History Flanigan was established in 1909 with the building of the Western Pacific Railroad Feather River Route between Oakland and Salt Lake City. The station in Honey Lake Valley was named after Patrick L. Flanigan, a landowner and businessman whom Western Pacific purchased right of way from in the area.
