Carter Beckworth
Carter Beckworth (born 1986 in Houston, Texas) is an American singer-songwriter and musician who resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is known for his unique style, combining rock, R&B and electronic elements. He has released five solo albums since 2007, and he is also the lead vocalist of the rock band Baker Hotel, with whom he has released two albums. Early career Beckworth has been writing songs and singing since the age of 12. He started playing professionally when he was a student at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. It was here that he released his debut solo album, Fairweather Grace, in 2007. Beckworth returned to Texas to attend St. Edward's University. After a year, Beckworth transferred to University of Texas at Austin where he graduated in 2010 with a degree in English and a minor in Spanish. Lindley Garrison Beckworth Sr. (June 30, 1913 – March 9, 1984) was an American judge and politician who served as a United States representative from Texas and a judge of the United States Customs Court. Education and career Born on June 30, 1913, on a farm in the South Bouie community of Mabank, Kaufman County, Texas, Beckworth attended the rural schools of his home county, then attended Abilene Christian College, East Texas State Teachers College, Commerce, Texas, Sam Houston State Teachers College (now Sam Houston State University), and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He was a teacher in Upshur County, Texas from 1932 to 1936. He was admitted to the bar in 1937 and commenced practice in Gilmer, Texas. He was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1936 to 1938. He was a United States representative from Texas from 1939 to 1953 and again from 1957 to 1967. James Beckwourth
James Pierson Beckwourth (born Beckwith, April 26, 1798 or 1800 – October 29, 1866 or 1867), was an American mountain man, North American fur trade, fur trader, and explorer. Beckwourth was known as "Bloody Arm" because of his skill as a fighter. He was Multiracial people, mixed-race and born into Slavery in the United States, slavery in Virginia. He was freed by his white father (and owner) and apprenticed to a blacksmith so that he could learn a trade. As a young man, Beckwourth moved to the Western United States, American West, first making connections with fur traders in St. Louis. As a fur trapper, he lived with the Crow people, Crow Nation for years. He is credited with the discovery of Beckwourth Pass through the Sierra Nevada, between present-day Reno, Nevada, and Portola, California, during the California Gold Rush years.
