Beauharnois (provincial Electoral District)
Beauharnois is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. The district notably include the city of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. It was created in 2001 from parts of Beauharnois-Huntingdon, Châteauguay and Salaberry-Soulanges. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, its territory was unchanged. An earlier version of the Beauharnois electoral district had been created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Huntingdon (provincial Electoral District)
Huntingdon is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipalities of Sainte-Martine, Napierville, Ormstown, Saint-Michel, Saint-Anicet, Lacolle and Sainte-Clotilde. It was originally created for the 1867 election. Its final election was in 1989 and its successor electoral district was Beauharnois-Huntingdon. It was re-created for the 2003 election from parts of Beauharnois-Huntingdon and Saint-Jean electoral districts. Vaudreuil (provincial Electoral District)
Vaudreuil is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. The biggest municipality in the district is Vaudreuil-Dorion. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Its final election was in 1936. It disappeared in the 1939 election and its successor electoral district was Vaudreuil-Soulanges. It was re-created for the 1989 election from the eastern part of Vaudreuil-Soulanges electoral district. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, its territory was unchanged. Mario Faubert
Mario Faubert (born December 2, 1954) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey defenceman and politician. Hockey career Faubert played two seasons at Saint Louis University before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1974 NHL amateur draft. His early career was split between the Penguins and the AHL's Hershey Bears. He played his first full season in 1981, and finished the year first among Pittsburgh defenceman in scoring. 2003 Quebec General Election
The 2003 Quebec general election was held on April 14, 2003, to elect members of the National Assembly of Quebec (Canada). The Parti libéral du Québec (PLQ), led by Jean Charest, defeated the incumbent Parti Québécois, led by Premier Bernard Landry. In Champlain there was a tie between PQ candidate Noëlla Champagne and Liberal candidate Pierre-A. Brouillette; although the initial tally was 11,867 to 11,859, a judicial recount produced a tally of 11,852 each. A new election was held on May 20 and was won by Champagne by a margin of 642 votes. Serge Deslières
Serge Deslières (April 14, 1947 – March 4, 2020) was a Quebec politician and teacher. He was the Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Beauharnois in the Montérégie region south of Montreal. He represented the Parti Québécois and was a member of the party since 1969 and MNA from 1994 to 2008. Deslières was born in Montreal. He went to the Université de Montréal and obtained a bachelor's degree in remedial education in 1979. Deslières was a teacher from 1970 to 1994 and was councilor and executive member for the Commission Scolaire de Valleyfield. From 1987 to 1994, he was the mayor of the municipality of Grande-Ile. 2007 Quebec General Election
The 2007 Quebec general election was held in the Canadian province of Quebec on March 26, 2007 to elect members of the 38th National Assembly of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party led by Premier Jean Charest managed to win a plurality of seats, but were reduced to a minority government, Quebec's first in 129 years, since the 1878 general election. The Action démocratique du Québec, in a major breakthrough, became the official opposition. The Parti Québécois was relegated to third-party status for the first time since the 1973 election. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. Quebec Liberal Party
The Quebec Liberal Party (QLP; french: Parti libéral du Québec, PLQ) is a provincial political party in Quebec. It has been independent of the federal Liberal Party of Canada since 1955. 2008 Quebec General Election
The 2008 Quebec general election was held in the Canada, Canadian Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Quebec on December 8, 2008. The Quebec Liberal Party, under incumbent Premier Jean Charest, was re-elected with a majority government, marking the first time since the 1950s (when the Union Nationale (Quebec), Union Nationale of Maurice Duplessis won four consecutive elections) that a party or leader was elected to a third consecutive mandate, and the first time for the Liberals since the 1930s, when Louis-Alexandre Taschereau was Premier. Guy Leclair
Guy Leclair (born May 9, 1968) is a Canadian politician. Leclair was elected on December 8, 2008 to represent the riding of Beauharnois in the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2008 provincial election. He is a member of the Parti Québécois. Born in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec, Leclair worked in the Canadian Armed Forces as a marine mechanic in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 1986 to 1989. He obtained a college degree at the Institute Teccart in 1998 and worked as an instrumental and control technician from 1989 to 2008. He has also been owner of two businesses, including one writing promotional articles for musical groups. Leclair was involved in sports being previously a soccer referee from 1984 to 1986, and from 1997 to 2004 a certified hockey coach for minor hockey in Valleyfield.
