Bear Creek, Saskatchewan
Bear Creek is a northern settlement in northwest Saskatchewan located on Highway 155. This community of 47 people is midway between the towns of Buffalo Narrows to the south and La Loche to the north. It is near the junction of Highway 909 that leads to Turnor Lake to the east. The chairman of this northern settlement is Dean Herman. The northern settlement is an unincorporated community in the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District. The community is located on Bear Creek which flows south from Linvall Lake and Palmbere Lake to Peter Pond Lake. Another Bear Creek was once located in the Qu'Appelle District of southern Saskatchewan. It had a post office which opened on June 10, 1935 and closed on June 15, 1963. The Bear Creek Wind Power Project is a wind farm located in Bear Creek Township near Wilkes-Barre in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, USA, with twelve Gamesa 2.0 MW wind turbines that began commercial operation in March 2006. The wind farm has a combined total nameplate capacity of 24 MW, producing about 61.4 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually. Bear Creek usually operates at roughly a 30% capacity factor until the winter months when winds are stronger and it runs near 70 percent capacity. The wind energy facility is located in the Poconos region of Northeastern Pennsylvania, less than 10 miles southeast of Wilkes-Barre near the village of Bear Creek. Bear Creek Township is a township in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The township has a total area of , making it is the largest municipality (by total area) in Luzerne County. The population was 2,752 at the 2020 census. History First settlers Bear Creek was first settled in the late 18th century. The first log cabin was built in 1786 (about nine miles from Wilkes-Barre). Bear Creek, with its abundance of trees, became the lumber king of Luzerne County. The first sawmill was built in 1800 by Oliver Helme. Many more sawmills were later constructed throughout the 19th century. Township Bear Creek was later incorporated as a township; it was carved from territory taken from Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, Bucks, Plains, and Jenkins (in 1856).
