Beachcombers
''The Beachcombers'' is a Canadian comedy-drama television series that ran on CBC Television from October 1, 1972, to December 12, 1990. With over 350 episodes, it is one of the longest-running dramatic series ever made for English-language Canadian television. The New Beachcombers
''The New Beachcombers'' was a renewal of the ''CBC'' long-running series ''The Beachcombers'', which ran for 19 seasons from 1972 to 1990. A movie of the week directed by Brad Turner was broadcast in November 2002, to commemorate both the ''CBC'' fiftieth anniversary, and the thirtieth anniversary of the original show's first episode. The Movie of the Week served as a pilot for a new series that played from 2002 to 2004. Bruno Gerussi, the actor who played Nick, the Greek-Canadian log-salvager, in the original ''Beachcomber'' series, had died. In the new show, Cameron Bancroft, who played a teenager in the original series, returns to Gibson's Landing, playing a new character, Scott, to take over Nick's old tug, the ''Persephone'', and to take over Nick's old salvage business. The building is now a real restaurant. The show's fictional restaurant was named after the character who owned it, who served as a mother-figure for other characters. A reach is a geographical term for a section of a river. As the town cafe and natural meeting point, where Nick also rented a room as office space for his salvage company, much of the drama happened in and immediately around Molly's Reach. Bruno Gerussi
Bruno Santos Gerussi (7 May 1928 – 21 November 1995) was a Canadian stage and television actor, best known for the lead role in the CBC Television series ''The Beachcombers''. He also performed onstage at the Stratford Festival, worked in radio, and hosted CBC's daily television cooking show ''Celebrity Cooks'' in the late 1970s. Early life and education Gerussi was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, as the eldest son of Enrico Gerussi, a coal miner working in Lethbridge, who had trained in Italy as a stonemason, and his wife Teresina Lazzorotto. The two married in 1927 and moved to Medicine Hat. The family subsequently moved to Exshaw, where Enrico worked as a sectionman on the Canadian Pacific Railway. Marc Strange
Marc Strange (July 24, 1941 – May 20, 2012) was a Canadian television producer, singer-songwriter, writer, and actor. He and his wife, Lynn Susan, were the co-creators of CBC Television's longest running series, ''The Beachcombers''. Career Strange dropped out of high school and worked on a tobacco farm before trying acting. He appeared in the television film ''The Paper People.'' After playing some supporting roles he returned to Canada, where he and his wife were to write the first episodes of the Beachcombers, a series he was associated with, for its entire 19-year run, drafting its final episode. Robert Allan Clothier, DFC (October 21, 1921 – February 10, 1999) was a Canadian stage and television actor most famous for his role as Relic on the CBC television series, ''The Beachcombers''. Pat John
Pat John (1953 – 13 July 2022) was a First Nations actor from Canada. He played for 19 years in ''The Beachcombers'', the second-longest running series in Canadian television history. John, a member of the shíshálh First Nation, was one of the first Indigenous people to appear on television in a non-caricature role. He played Jesse Jim, business partner with Bruno Gerussi in "The Persephone" log-salvaging business on the CBC series. The show became an international hit. Persephone (tugboat)
''Persephone'' is a steel logging tug used in the filming of the CBC Television series ''The Beachcombers''. Built as a small tug named ''John Henry'', it is today preserved as a museum ship in the town of Gibsons, British Columbia. The tug was built in 1965 for Harry "Smitty" Smith, of Smith's Marina in Gibsons, by local boat builder John F Gooldrup. As ''John Henry'', the tug was used as a small tug and work boat in the waters of the Sunshine Coast. In 1972, the vessel was chartered by CBC Television to portray a log salvage boat owned by the central character Nick Adonidas and his partner Jesse Jim in the series ''The Beachcombers''. Gibsons
Gibsons is a coastal community of 4,605 in southwestern British Columbia, Canada on the Strait of Georgia. Although it is on the mainland, the Sunshine Coast is not accessible by road.
