Beach Road, Perth
Beach Road is a major east-west road in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, connecting Perth's inner northern beachside suburbs and inland state housing areas with shopping and public transport facilities at Warwick and the Malaga industrial area. It was mostly built between 1967 and 1974, and is a dual carriageway for most of its length, except for a small western part between Marmion Avenue and the coast, which is a minor residential distributor road and is discontinuous at Marmion Avenue. Beach Road also serves as a local government boundary. From Alexander Drive to Wanneroo Road, Beach Road is the boundary with the City of Wanneroo on the northern side and the City of Stirling on the southern side. Wanneroo Road
Wanneroo Road is a arterial highway in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia linking Joondanna and Yokine in the south with Wanneroo and Yanchep in the north. As part of State Route 60, it begins from Charles Street in the inner city and becomes Indian Ocean Drive up to Dongara. Originally a narrow and often country road with a single lane in each direction it has been periodically widened and (particularly north of Wanneroo) straightened. Around the Carabooda area the road has been realigned. Short sections of the original, narrow road remain providing access to properties and businesses along the road. The road is also multiplexed with State Routes 81 and 83 for short lengths. Scarborough Beach Road
Scarborough Beach Road is an arterial northwest–southeast road located in the inner northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It connects North Perth to Scarborough Beach, and is mostly a single carriageway road, with two or three lanes in each direction. The road is the western section of State Route 75, between Osborne Park and Scarborough, and a short section in Innaloo is also part of State Route 64. Mirrabooka, Western Australia
Mirrabooka is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Stirling. Mirrabooka is an Aboriginal name for the constellation most commonly known as the Southern Cross. In the early stages of development of the suburb, it was originally considered as an extension of Girrawheen, and Nollamara. In the 1980s and 1990s the suburb expanded rapidly with the subdivision of bushland, on which housing developments have been built, especially north of Yirrigan Drive. The Mirrabooka Square shopping centre, which originally opened in 1979, has since received a number of expansions. Koondoola, Western Australia
Koondoola is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Wanneroo. Its postcode is 6064. Most of Koondoola's infrastructure was built in the 1970s. For example, two of the area's focal points, Koondoola Primary School and Koondoola Plaza, were built in 1975 and 1978 respectively. Prior to the 1970s a large portion of Koondoola had been a regional landfill facility. Also in Koondoola is the small but progressive Waddington Primary School, overlooking local bushland. Mirrabooka Avenue
Mirrabooka Avenue is a major north-south road located in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It is a four-lane dual carriageway for its entire length. It mainly passes through residential areas, as well as industrial areas on the northern end of the road in Landsdale. On the southern end, it is continuous with Nollamara Avenue. On the northern end, it is continuous with Gnangara Road, which meets up with Ocean Reef Road and state route 84. Hamersley is a residential suburb north-northwest of the central business district of Perth, the capital of Western Australia, and six kilometres (4 mi) from the Indian Ocean. Carine is a suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, and is located north of Perth's central business district (CBD) between Marmion Avenue and Mitchell Freeway. Its local government area is the City of Stirling. History The name "Carine" was derived from the two swamps in the area, which were recorded by R. Quinn in a survey in 1865 as "Big Carine Swamp" and "Small Carine Swamp". Duncraig is a northern suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, and is located north of Perth's central business district (CBD) between Marmion Avenue and Mitchell Freeway. Its local government area is the City of Joondalup. History Not much is known about Duncraig before the residential settlement boom – the majority of land in the area remained largely undeveloped until the 1960s. Watermans Bay is a northern coastal suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Stirling. History The area originally formed part of the Hamersley Estate, which also included the suburbs now known as Carine, North Beach and modern-day Hamersley. These areas were owned by the Hamersley family, who arrived from Europe to settle in the Swan River Colony in 1837. Reid Highway
Reid Highway is a east-west highway and partial freeway in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, linking North Beach with Middle Swan. As part of State Route 3, it forms half of Perth's outer ring road along with Roe Highway, which it joins onto at its eastern terminus. The highway has many different speed limits and road conditions along its length, but is predominantly a four-lane dual carriageway with a speed limit. A section, between Erindale Road and Altone Road (which makes up just over half the highway’s length), is a continuous freeway. Warwick railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Joondalup line, from Perth station serving the suburb of Warwick. History Prior to the commissioning of the site as a railway station, the location was originally a bus interchange known as the Warwick Bus Station. Opened in 1987, it was similar in design and appearance to facilities constructed at Mirrabooka and Rockingham for the same purpose. Girrawheen, Western Australia
Girrawheen is a northern suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Wanneroo. History In October 1969, the Government, in a bid to offer affordable land for housing following the McCarrey Report, rezoned a large portion of land in the area from Urban Deferred to Urban, which was then included in land set aside for the State Housing Commission under the Mirrabooka satellite city development scheme. The plan never came to fruition, although a town planning scheme was approved by the Shire of Wanneroo in September 1970. On 26 June 1970, the Shire gazetted the name "Girrawheen", meaning "place of flowers" or "the place where flowers grow" in an Eastern States Aboriginal language, possibly that of the Kambuwal people in southeastern Queensland.
