Be Stiff EP
''B Stiff'' is the first EP by American new wave band Devo, released in 1978 by Stiff Records. Background ''B Stiff'' is a compilation of three 7-inch singles released by Stiff in the UK, the first two of which had initially been released independently by the band. The EP collects the only three Devo singles released by Stiff. The cover was created by graphic designer Barney Bubbles and photographer Brian Griffin. Devo
Devo (, originally ) is an American rock band from Akron, Ohio, formed in 1973. Their classic line-up consisted of two sets of brothers, the Mothersbaughs (Mark and Bob) and the Casales (Gerald and Bob), along with Alan Myers. The band had a No. 14 ''Billboard'' chart hit in 1980 with the single " Whip It", the song that gave the band mainstream popularity. Devo's music and visual presentation (including stage shows and costumes) mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor and mordantly satirical social commentary. The band's namesake, the tongue-in-cheek social theory of "de-evolution", was an integral concept in their early work, which was marked by experimental and dissonant art punk that merged rock music with electronics. ''Greatest Misses'' is a compilation album of songs by American new wave band Devo, released in 1990 by Warner Bros. Records. ''Greatest Misses'' contains lesser-known tracks and alternate versions of tracks from other albums. It has a Parental Advisory label because of the song "Penetration in the Centrefold". The album booklet includes several photos from previous albums, and the second half of an article on the band by Howie Klein for '' BAM'' magazine. The first half of this article appears in the booklet for '' Devo's Greatest Hits''. Alan Myers (drummer)
Alan Myers (December 29, 1954 – June 24, 2013) was an American rock drummer whose music career spanned more than 30 years. He came to prominence in the late 1970s as the third and most prominent drummer of the new wave band Devo, replacing Jim Mothersbaugh. Early years Alan Myers was born in 1954, in Akron, Ohio, and came from a jazz background. He graduated from Firestone High School in 1973. In 1976, he met Bob Mothersbaugh in a café in West Akron and went to the house Bob and Gerald Casale were renting for an audition. Alan was Jewish and had been playing percussion since at least junior high school. Jim Mothersbaugh
Jim Mothersbaugh (; born January 18, 1956) is an American electronic engineer and former musician. He was the second drummer of the new wave band Devo, replacing Rod Reisman who played for only one show. Mothersbaugh joined Devo with his older brothers, Bob and Mark. He was in the band from 1973 to 1976. Mothersbaugh appears on several early Devo demos. Later on, he performed as an equipment technician for the band on the 1980 tour, and worked at Roland through much of the 1980s helping to develop MIDI technology. Currently, he is the president of Circle Prime Manufacturing, an electronics contract manufacturing company in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, that has produced devices for the U.S. military, aerospace, and commercial clients. Gerald Casale
Gerald Vincent "Jerry" Casale ( ) ( ''né'' Pizzute; born July 28, 1948) is an American musician. He came to prominence in the late 1970s as co-founder, co-lead vocalist, and bass player of the new wave band Devo, which released a top 20 hit in 1980 with the single " Whip It". Casale is the main lyricist and one of the main composers of Devo's music and directed most of Devo's music videos. He is one of only two members (along with lead singer and keyboardist Mark Mothersbaugh) who have been with Devo throughout its entire history. Casale's brother Bob also performed with the band. Casale pursued a solo career in 2005 while still a member of Devo with the project Jihad Jerry & the Evildoers. Robert Curtis Lewis (born March 4, 1947) is an American composer and musician. He is best known as a co-founder (along with Gerald Casale) of the new wave band Devo. He graduated from Kent State University shortly after the Kent State shootings on May 4, 1970. Early years Bob Lewis was born in Akron, Ohio, and played basketball briefly for Bobby Knight at Cuyahoga Falls High School. He was a National Merit Scholar and attended Kent State, where he was the first student to graduate with a major in anthropology. Lewis studied poetry with Black Mountain poet Ed Dorn, British poet Eric Mottram and Robert Bertholf, an English professor at Kent who later was named the curator of the poetry collection and Charles D.
