Baška, Croatia
Baška () is a village and a municipality located on the south east of the island of Krk, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Croatia. According to the 2011 census, the municipality has a population of 1,674, with 981 in Baška itself. This cultural and historical center with its old stone houses and narrow streets, has been a tourist destination since the 19th century, and has developed into a popular resort. It is known for its inscribed stone monument from 1100, for its many surrounding beaches, and its long tradition in tourism. Baška has a rich cultural and historical heritage. Highlights are the early Christian archeological site from the 5th century, the renowned Baška tablet from the year 1100 found in the Church of St. Lucy in the nearby Jurandvor, the remains of a Roman settlement, as well as many historical churches and chapels. Baška ( pl, Baszka) is a municipality and village in Frýdek-Místek District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 4,000 inhabitants. Administrative parts Villages of Hodoňovice and Kunčičky u Bašky are administrative parts of Baška. Etymology The name is probably derived from personal name ''Baška''. According to less probable theories, the name is derived from the folk name for the sheeps that were bred here. Geography Baška is located about south of Frýdek-Místek and south of Ostrava. It is situated on both sides of the historical border between Moravia and Silesia; Hodoňovice and Kunčičky u Bašky lies in Moravia and the village of Baška in Silesia. Baška (1247 ''Terra Pousa, Bosk'', ''Bayan'', 1399 ''Bosk, Bask'', 1427 ''Baask'', 1612 ''Bosko, Boska'') (german: Baumgarten, Boschko; hu, Baska) is a village and municipality in the Košice-okolie District of the Kosice Region in eastern Slovakia. Etymology The name comes from the Slavic personal name ''Božk'', ''Božek'' or ''Božka'' (derived from ''bog'': god), the older theory proposed by Ján Stanislav is also ''Bašek''. History The village was first mentioned in 1247. During this period, it belonged to the Abov (Abó) family local branch. In 1427 it belonged to the Frank family of Šemša. In 1447 the village was bought by Captain Peter from Zips(Spiš) county. In 1580 it became a part of the town of Myslava, and during this period the exploitation of local wood began.
