François Achille Bazaine
François Achille Bazaine (13 February 181123 September 1888) was an officer of the French army. Rising from the ranks, during four decades of distinguished service (including 35 years on campaign) under Louis-Philippe and then Napoleon III, he held every rank in the army from fusilier to Marshal of France, the latter in 1863. Early life François Achille Bazaine was born at Versailles, on 13 February 1811, from an affair prior to his father's marriage, with Marie-Madeleine, Josèphe dit Mélanie Vasseur. His father, was General Pierre-Dominique Bazaine, a polytechnic (promotion X1803), meritorious engineer of Napoleon I, and director of the Institute of Communications Channels of the Russian Empire. Jean René Bazaine
Jean René Bazaine (21 December 1904 – 4 March 2001) was a French painter, designer of stained glass windows and writer. He was the great great grandson of the English Court portraitist Sir George Hayter. Studies Bazaine was born in Paris. He studied sculpture at the Académie Julian and with Paul Landowski after a brief passage at the École des Beaux-Arts. At the same time, he continued his study of philosophy and literature at the Sorbonne in Paris attaining ''certificats'' in art history and philosophy (1921–1925). Bergson's ''L'évolution créatrice'' was his main inspiration at the time. With Baltrušaitis, he participated at the first "Groupe d'Histoire de l'art" led by Emile Mâle and Henri Focillon. These studies would culminate in an influential text ''Notes sur la peinture d'aujourd'hui'' (1948), aimed at going beyond the boundaries—quite dogmatic at the time—of ''abstract'' and ''figurative''. Pierre-Dominique Bazaine (Пётр Петрович Базен) (1786–1838) was a French scientist and engineer. Early life He was born 13 January 1786, in the town of Scy-sur-Moselle, son of Pierre Bazaine (1760-1832) and Francoise Gilbert. Educated in Paris, graduate of the Paris engineering schools, Paris' Polytechnic University (" Ecole polytechnique") and Paris' University of Bridges (" Ecole des ponts"). Initially he practised as an Engineer in Italy and Southern France. Military career His outstanding abilities drew the attention of Napoleon I who subsequently recommended him to the Russian Emperor Czar Alexander I, along with engineers Fabrom, Destremom and Potier, to take up senior posts in the Russia corps of Civil Engineers. George Albert Bazaine-Hayter
George Albert Bazaine-Hayter (4 December 1843 – 30 January 1914), known as Albert, was a French general. Early life Bazaine-Hayter was the son of Pierre-Dominique (Adolphe) Bazaine and nephew of François Achille Bazaine, on whose General Staff he served in the French intervention in Mexico and during the Franco-Prussian War. Military service Bazaine-Hayter engaged as a volunteer on July 19, 1862 in the 34th infantry regiment. When war was declared in 1870, he was appointed orderly officer of the Marshal commanding the 3rd corps of the Army of the Rhine. He attended all the battles fought under Metz. Adolphe Bazaine-Vasseur
Pierre-Dominique "Adolphe" Bazaine (1 December 1809 – 1893), was a French railway engineer. He was a regional engineer with the highways department at Altkirch, subsequently becoming director of railways for Alsace Early life Son of Pierre-Dominique Bazaine (1786-1838), also an engineer, and of Mary Madeleine Josèphe (known as Mélanie) Vasseur. Adolphe was the elder brother of François Achille Bazaine, the Marshal of France. Adolphe entered l'Ecole Polytechnique in 1827, and then the school of the department of civil engineering. Career Bazaine was appointed engineer of district of the department of civil engineering to Altkirch (High Rhine).
