Alexander Bayne
Alexander Bayne of Rires (c. 1675 – June 1737) was the first tenant of the chair of Scots law in the University of Edinburgh. Life Bayne was the son of John Bayne of Logie, Fife, to whom he was served heir in general on 8 October 1700, and descended from the old family of 'Bayne of Tulloch', Dingwall, Rosshire. He was admitted advocate on 10 July 1714, but seems to have had little or no practice. In January 1722 Bayne was appointed curator of the Advocates' Library, and on the establishment of the chair of Scots law in the university of Edinburgh in the same year the town council elected him to fill it. Early in 1726 he retired from the office of curator of the Advocates' Library. In June 1737 he died. Works In 1726 Bayne published an edition of Sir Thomas Hope's ''Minor Practicks''. Thomas McKee Bayne
Thomas McKee Bayne (June 14, 1836 – June 16, 1894) was an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War, a lawyer, a district attorney, and a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Bayne was born in Bellevue, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools and Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. He studied law. During the American Civil War, he entered the Union Army in July 1862 as colonel of the 136th Pennsylvania Infantry. He took part in the battles of Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. He resumed the study of law in 1865, and was admitted to the bar of Allegheny County in April 1866. He was elected as district attorney for Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in October 1870 and held the office until January 1, 1874. Bayne was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1874. Trevor Mitchell Bayne (born February 19, 1991) is an American professional stock car racing driver, dirt racing driver, team owner, and businessman. He last competed part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, driving the No. 18 Toyota Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing and part-time in the American Crate All-Star Series presented by PPM, driving the No. 29 Longhorn Chassis for Trevor Bayne Racing. He is the youngest person to ever win the Daytona 500, the largest event in NASCAR, doing so a day after his 20th birthday in 2011. Thomas Bayne (1824 – July 5, 1888) (also known as "Sam Nixon") was an African American Republican Party (United States), Republican politician. Born a slave, he became a dental assistant and Underground Railroad conductor in Norfolk, Virginia, before escaping to New Bedford, Massachusetts, where he changed his name to Thomas Bayne. Returning to Norfolk after the American Civil War, Bayne worked as a dentist and also preached; he became a leader in the African American community. He was elected a delegate to the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1868 as a Republican, but was never again elected to another office. Early and family life Bayne said he was born enslaved in North Carolina as Samuel Nixon. He escaped in 1844 but was recaptured after a year, then sold to Charles F. Thomas Vere Bayne (1829–1908) was an academic at the University of Oxford. He was a friend of Charles Dodgson, better known as Lewis Carroll, the author of the ''Alice in Wonderland'' books. Beverly Bayne (born Pearl Beverly Van Name; November 11, 1894 – August 18, 1982) was an American actress who appeared in silent films beginning in 1910 in Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for Essanay Studios. Early life Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Bayne moved to Chicago when she was six. She stayed there for a time, and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before she settled in Chicago. She was sixteen when by curiosity she happened by the Essanay Studios. She was told she had a ''camera face''. She began working there at a salary of $35/week. Hugh Aiken Bayne (15 February 1870 in New Orleans – 24 December 1954 in New Haven, Connecticut) was the son of Thomas Levingston Bayne, a lawyer who fought in the Civil War. His grandfather John Gayle was a Congressman and Governor of Alabama. Bayne attended Yale University, where he graduated in 1892 with an AB. While at Yale, he published ''The Tales of Temple Bar: A Prologue'' (1891), a collection of his comic writing for campus humor magazine ''The Yale Record''. He was a member of Skull and Bones. He would later receive an honorary LLD from Tulane University. In the same year he was admitted to the bar, and began the practice of law in New Orleans.
