Bayerischer Verdienstorden
The Bavarian Order of Merit (german: Bayerischer Verdienstorden) is the Order of Merit of the Free State of Bavaria. It is awarded by the Minister-President of Bavaria as a "recognition of outstanding contributions to the Free State of Bavaria and the Bavarian people". The order was instituted by law on 11 June 1957. The Prime Minister and the Cabinet can nominate awardees. Mario Adorf
Mario Adorf (; born 8 September 1930) is a German actor, considered to be one of the great veteran character actors of European cinema. Since 1954, he has played both leading and supporting roles in over 200 film and television productions, among them the 1979 Oscar-winning film ''The Tin Drum''. He is also the author of several successful mostly autobiographical books. Biography Adorf was born in Zürich, Switzerland, the illegitimate child of Matteo Menniti, an Italian surgeon and Alice Adorf, a German medical assistant. He grew up in his maternal grandfather's hometown, Mayen, where he was raised by his unmarried mother. He rose to fame in Europe, and particularly Germany, and also made appearances in international films, including ''Ten Little Indians'' and '' Smilla's Sense of Snow''. Georg Bachmann
Georg Bachmann (6 December 1885 Westheim – 23 October 1971 Gunzenhausen) was a German politician. During his political career he represented the DNVP, CNBL and the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CDU) during 1949 - 1954. From 1940 to 1945 he was a member of the Nazi Party. Evangelos Averoff
Evangelos Averoff-Tositsa (Greek: Ευάγγελος Αβέρωφ Τοσίτσας) (Trikala, 17 April 1910 – Athens, 2 January 1990) was a Greek politician, leader of the right wing party New Democracy (1981–1984), member of parliament, and author. Life and work Evangelos Averoff was an Aromanian. Averoff got involved in public matters from very early on in his life and played a major role in Greek politics for almost 50 years. In 1940 he was appointed Prefect (regional governor) of Kerkyra (Corfu). During the tripartite Axis occupation of Greece, Averoff was taken hostage and imprisoned in Italy. He escaped a year later and created the " Freedom or Death" resistance group, which aimed to liberate Greek and Allied war hostages. Gisela Anton (born ''Gisela Glasmachers''; 27 March 1955 in Bullay) is a German experimental particle and astroparticle physicist. She was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in 1994. Since 1995, she is a professor and Chair of Experimental Physics at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg. Early life and education Anton began studying physics in at the University of Bonn in 1973. Willi Ankermüller
Willi Ankermüller (18 March 1901, Bad Neustadt an der Saale, Lower Franconia - 7 July 1986 in Grosshesselohe) was a German politician and jurist. He represented the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU), and was a member of the Landtag of Bavaria in the 1950s. Education Ankermüller studied law and political science at the University of Würzburg. There he became an active member of the Catholic Student Association. In 1925, he supported property rights of churches according to the Codex Juris Canonici, and worked as a magistrate and then director of the municipal youth office in Schweinfurt. Two years later he passed the second legal state examination and settled in Schweinfurt as a lawyer. After the Nazis came to power in Germany, he was taken into protective custody in 1933. Tobias Angerer
Tobias Angerer (born 12 April 1977 in Traunstein, Bavaria) is a German cross-country skier, and skis with the SC Vachendorf club. He graduated from the Skigymnasium Berchtesgaden in 1996. His occupation is "Sports Soldier". Angerer has been competing since 1996. Biography Angerer turned 18 in 1995 in his first big event, the 10 km classical at the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Asiago, Italy. The next year he took a 26th place on the 30 km freestyle and a 28th place on the 10 km classical at the World Junior Championships in Canmore, Canada. His first victory in the FIS World Cup came on 6 January 2004 in Falun, Sweden, when he won the 2 × 15 km double pursuit in front of Italy's Pietro Piller Cottrer. Axel Eugen Alexander von Oesterreich (22 June 1910 – 6 September 1988), better known as Axel von Ambesser, was a German playwright, actor and film director. Ambesser's father was Alexander Constantin von Oesterreich. Ambesser was born in Hamburg and attended Wilhelm-Gymnasium. Paul Althaus
Paul Althaus (4 February 1888 – 18 May 1966) was a German Lutheran theologian. He was born in Obershagen in the Province of Hanover, and he died in Erlangen. He held various pastorates from 1914 to 1925, when he was appointed associate professor of practical and systematic theology at the University of Göttingen, becoming full professor two years later. Althaus was moderately critical of Lutheran Orthodoxy and evangelical-leaning Neo-Lutheranism. Walter Althammer (born 12 March 1928 in Augsburg, Bavarian Swabia) is a German politician, representative of the Christian Social Union of Bavaria. Werner Andreas Albert (10 January 1935 – 10 November 2019) was a German-born Australian conductor. Personal life Albert was born in Weinheim. He began his studies in musicology and history, and later studied conducting with Herbert von KarajanMartin Buzacott, "Polishing forgotten gems", ''ABC Radio 24 Hours'', March 1999, p. 14 and Hans Rosbaud. Korbinian Aigner
Korbinian Aigner, known as the ''Apfelpfarrer'' ("apple pastor"), (11 May 1885, in Hohenpolding, district of Erding, Bavaria – 5 October 1966, in Freising, Bavaria) was a Bavarian Catholic priest and pomologist. Life Korbinian Aigner was born on the substantial family farm at Hohenpolding on 11 May 1885. He was the eldest son and heir to the farm, but renounced his inheritance in favor of his ten younger siblings in order to become a priest. School and university From 1891 Aigner attended elementary school in Hohenpolding. In the autumn of 1896 he moved to the Archiepiscopal Gymnasium (Grammar school) in Freising. In 1904 he was not permitted to graduate however because of his inadequate performance in Greek and Latin studies. Aigner took the opportunity to move to the Luitpold Gymnasium in Munich.
