Auckland Rugby League
The Auckland Rugby League (ARL) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is responsible for rugby league in the region, including both club and school rugby league. It began in 1910 when the first season of club league in Auckland occurred. The first match was a practice game between Newton Rangers and Ponsonby United at Victoria Park which Ponsonby won 17 to 15. The first full club season was in 1910. The Auckland Rugby League was once recognised by England's Northern Rugby Football Union as New Zealand's governing body for the game of rugby league. In 2009, the ARL celebrated its centenary. Dane O'Hara
Dane Bradford Mark O'Hara is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand. At the time of his retirement he held the record for most international matches for New Zealand. Early years O'Hara attended St. Paul's College in Auckland and played for the Bay Roskill Vikings when they amalgamated in 1979. He toured Australia in 1973 with the Auckland under-23 side. Playing career After establishing himself in the Auckland Rugby League competition and representing Auckland, O'Hara moved to England and joined Hull F.C. in 1981, playing alongside fellow Kiwis Gary Kemble and James Leuluai and then, from 1983, another New Zealand Captain, Fred Ah Kuoi. 2022 Auckland Rugby League Season
The 2022 Auckland Rugby League season is its 114th season since the founding of the Auckland Rugby League in 1909. Point Chevalier Pirates won the Fox Memorial Shield for the 6th time with a 14–12 win over the Glenora Bears. Manurewa Kowhai, the Manurewa Marlins premier women's team, won the women's premiership when they defeated Point Chevalier 16 points to 6. Their championship team, the Manurewa Whero, won the championship competition. The Akarana Falcons men's and women's teams both won the New Zealand Rugby League Premiership competitions. The men's team beat Canterbury Bulls 46–4 in the final on October 1 at North Harbour Stadium, while the women beat Counties Manukau Stingrays 24–12 at Mount Smart Stadium on April 16. Bob Bailey (rugby League)
Robert Bailey is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer, and coach of the New Zealand national rugby league team. Career Bailey played for Ponsonby with his three brothers. Two of them, Roger and Gary, played for New Zealand. From the Bay Roskill Vikings club, Bailey coached Auckland between 1983 and 1987. During this time Auckland did not lose a provincial or inter-district match, the worst result being a 12-all draw with the South Island in 1985. Bailey later coached the New Zealand national rugby league team between 1990 and 1991. This included matches that counted towards the 1992 World Cup. He finished his coaching career with an even record of three wins and three losses. In 2003 Bailey assisted the Russian side in their tour of New Zealand and at the Victory Cup, which they won by defeating British Amateur Rugby League Association. Sione Lousi (born 8 October 1989) is a New Zealand professional rugby league footballer who plays for the Townsville Blackhawks in the Queensland Cup. Stephen Matai (born 5 August 1984) is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played in the National Rugby League (NRL )from 2005 to 2016.
