Battle Of Věstonice
The Battle of Wisternitz or Dolní Věstonice was fought on 5 August 1619 between a Moravian force of the Bohemian Confederation under Friedrich von Tiefenbach (Teuffenbach) and a Habsburg army under Henri de Dampierre. The battle was a Moravian victory. The battle is part of the Thirty Years' War. Budweis (České Budějovice) was one of the three towns which remained loyal to King Ferdinand of House Habsburg when Bohemia revolted. After the Habsburg victory at Sablat, the Bohemians were forced to raise the siege of České Budějovice. On 15 June 1619, Georg Friedrich of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Weikersheim retreated to Soběslav where he awaited reinforcement by Count Heinrich Matthias von Thurn. After taking control of the strong places of southern Bohemia, Ferdinand sent a force under Dampierre to Moravia, which had chosen the side of the Bohemian rebels. Soběslav
Soběslav (; german: Sobieslau) is a town in Tábor District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 6,800 inhabitants. The historical town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. Rudolf Von Tiefenbach
Rudolf von Tiefenbach (26 November 1582 - 4 March 1653) was a German military commander who served the Holy Roman Empire during the Thirty Years' War. Despite being raised a protestant, Tiefenbach joined the catholic Habsburg army in 1613. During the 1620 Battle of White Mountain, he led the ''1st Division'' of the Imperial Army which included the cuirassier regiment of Albrecht von Wallenstein and the horse regiment of Jean de Gauchier. When Charles Bonaventure de Longueval, Count of Bucquoy died, Tiefenbach took over part of his command. In 1631, after Torquato Conti retired from his post, Tiefenbach was elevated to the rank of Feldmarschall by the Holy Roman Emperor. In 1639 he was named a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece. Count Jindřich Matyáš of Thurn-Valsassina (german: Heinrich Matthias Graf von Thurn und Valsassina; it, Enrico Matteo Conte della Torre di Valsassina) (24 February 1567 – 26 January 1640), was one of the leaders of the Protestant Bohemian Revolt against Emperor Ferdinand II. He took part in events that led to the Thirty Years' War, and after the war he became a military leader and diplomat in Swedish service, who eventually resided in Swedish Estonia. Count Georg Friedrich von Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Weikersheim (September 5, 1569 – July 7, 1645) was an officer and an amateur poet. Biography Born in Neuenstein, Georg Friedrich was the son of Wolfgang, Count of Hohenlohe-Weikersheim and his wife Magdalena of Nassau-Dillenburg. At the age of 17, in 1586 Count Georg Friedrich went to the University of Geneva and studied there until 1588. He was probably the last student of Professor François Hotman. Subsequently, for the purpose of study, Count Georg Friedrich went to France and later to Italy, where he enrolled at the universities of Siena and Padua. After finishing his studies, in 1591 he fought under Henry IV of France against the Catholic League. In the war against the Turks in 1595, he was promoted to Colonel.
