Battle Of Maella
The Battle of Maella was a battle of the First Carlist War, occurring on Monday, October 1, 1838, near the Aragonese town of Maella. The battle was a Carlist victory and resulted in the routing of most of the Liberal forces. The Carlist forces were composed of some 3,500 infantrymen and 500 cavalry. The Liberals counted on some 5,000 infantry and 300 cavalry. During the fighting, Ramón Cabrera was wounded in the arm but led a desperate cavalry charge, raising the morale of his forces and throwing the Liberal forces into disarray. The Liberal forces counterattacked, throwing the Carlist left guard into disarray. However, Cabrera led four companies of infantry and defeated the Liberal forces. Pardiñas also attempted to rally his troops, but was unsuccessful, and he died in combat. The First Carlist War was a civil war in Spain from 1833 to 1840, the first of three Carlist Wars. Melchor Ferrer Dalmau (1888–1965) was a Spanish historian and a Carlist militant. He is known mostly as principal author of a massive, 30-volume series titled ''Historia del tradicionalismo español'', considered fundamental work of reference for any student of Carlism. Caspe
Caspe is a municipality in the province of Zaragoza, part of the autonomous community of Aragon (Spain), seat of the comarca Bajo Aragón-Caspe. As of 2018 it had a population of 9,525 inhabitants (INE 2018) and its municipality, of 503.33 km2, is the fourth largest in Aragon. Maella
Maella (; ) is a municipality located in the province of Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain. According to the 2015 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 1,953 inhabitants. This town is located in La Franja, the local dialect is a variant of Catalan. History The Battle of Maella took place here in 1838. Ramón Cabrera, 1st Duke Of Maestrazgo
Ramon Cabrera y Griñó, 1st Count of Morella, 1st Marquis of Ter (27 December 1806 – 24 May 1877) was a Carlist general of Catalonia. He renounced the combined and Spanish grandee title of 1st Duke of Maestrazgo with its annual stipend in favour of the less fortunate and kept instead both the Borbón recognised Carlist count and the subsequent Borbón marquis nobility titles. He was born at Tortosa, province of Tarragona, Spain. As his family had in their gift two chaplaincies, young Cabrera was sent to the seminary of Tortosa, where he made himself conspicuous as an unruly pupil, ever mixed up in disturbances and careless in his studies. After he had taken minor orders, the bishop refused to ordain him as a priest, telling him that the Church was not his vocation, and that everything in him showed that he ought to be a soldier.
