Battle Of Kupres (1992)
The Battle of Kupres ( sh, Bitka za Kupres / ) was a battle of the Bosnian War, fought between the Bosnian Croat Territorial Defence Force (''Teritorijalna obrana'' – TO) supported by the Croatian Army (''Hrvatska vojska'' – HV) troops on one side and the Yugoslav People's Army (''Jugoslovenska narodna armija'' – JNA), augmented by the Bosnian Serb TO on the other at the Kupres Plateau, on 3–11 April 1992. During the fighting on 8 April, the Bosnian Croat TO was reorganised as the Croatian Defence Council (''Hrvatsko vijeće obrane'' – HVO). The objective of the battle was to control the strategic Kupres Plateau, a major supply route. Kupres
Kupres ( sr-cyrl, Купрес) is a town and municipality located in Canton 10 of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As of 2013, it has a population of 5,057 inhabitants, while the town of Kupres has a population of 2,883 inhabitants. Location Kupres is distanced from Livno, from Mostar, 143 km from Sarajevo, 123 km from Banja Luka and from Split. Kupres is located above sea level and averages 55 days a year of snowfall due to its advantageous location in the Dinaric Alps. The Vance plan ( hr, Vanceov plan, sr, Vensov plan, italics=yes) was a peace plan negotiated by the former United States Secretary of State Cyrus Vance in November 1991 during the Croatian War of Independence. The Battle of Kupres ( Bosnian, Croatian and sr, Bitka za Kupres, italics=yes) was a battle of the Bosnian War, fought between the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH) and the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) on one side and the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) on the other from 20 October to 3 November 1994. Croatian Defence Forces
The Croatian Defence Forces ( hr, Hrvatske obrambene snage or HOS) were the paramilitary arm of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) from 1991 to 1992, during the first stages of the Yugoslav wars. During the Croatian War of Independence, the HOS organized several early companies and participated in Croatia's defense. At the peak of the war in Croatia, the HOS was several battalions in size. The 204th Vukovar Brigade ( hr, 204. vukovarska brigada) of the Croatian Army was a military unit of the Republic of Croatia that led the defence of the city of Vukovar during the 1991 Battle of Vukovar, in the Croatian War of Independence. The Zrinski Battalion ( hr, Bojna Zrinski) was a special forces unit of the Croatian National Guard (''Zbor narodne garde'' – ZNG) and later of the Croatian Army (''Hrvatska vojska'' – HV) established in Kumrovec on 18 May 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence.
