Batiscan River
The Batiscan River is located in La Mauricie administrative region, in the Quebec province, Canada. This river flows from Lake Édouard in Mauricie south and west to empty into the St. Lawrence River at Batiscan, Quebec, northeast of Trois-Rivières, Quebec. It passes through the regional county municipalities (RCM) (MRC in French) of La Tuque, Portneuf, Mékinac and Les Chenaux. The river traverses a territory covered mainly by forest from its source to the Saint-Adelphe, Quebec railway bridge; the rest of its course is predominantly agricultural. The Batiscan river valley is designated "Batiscanie, Quebec". Today, this valley is a paradise for camping, vacationing, observations of nature and water activities such as canoeing, kayaking, rafting, pontoon and swimming in designated areas. Saint-Narcisse is a parish municipality located in the regional county municipality (MRC) Chenaux, in the administrative region of Mauricie, in the province of Quebec, in Canada. Located on the North Shore of the Saint Lawrence River, about from downtown Trois-Rivières, the parish of Saint-Narcisse is the heart of the Mauricie region. Jeannotte River
Jeannotte River is a river that rises in Lac Édouard in the municipality of Lac-Édouard in Haute-Mauricie, agglomerated with the city of La Tuque since 2003, in the administrative region of Mauricie, in the province of Quebec, Canada. La Tuque
La Tuque (; ) is a city located in north-central Quebec, Canada, on the Saint-Maurice River, between Trois-Rivières and Chambord. The population was 11,227 at the Canada 2011 Census, most of which live within the urban area. At over 28,000 square kilometres, it is the largest city in Canada by area. Batiscan, Quebec
Batiscan is a municipality in the Mauricie region of the province of Quebec in Canada. It is located along the Saint Lawrence River at the mouth of the Batiscan River. History In 1609, Samuel de Champlain, on his way to Lake Champlain, wrote of a Huron and Algonquin encampment one and a half leagues from St. Mary's River, which places it around the modern settlement of Batiscan. A year later, he wrote of having met an indigenous leader called "Batiscan". On his map of 1612, Champlain designated this area north of the Saint Lawrence River as the "region of bastisquan". While the name has virtually remained unchanged since first mentioned by Champlain, its meaning has remained uncertain, possibly meaning mist or haze (as often seen at the mouth of the Batiscan River), pulverized dried meat, rushes, or even making a mistake, taking a misstep. Mauricie
Mauricie () is a traditional and current administrative region of Quebec. La Mauricie National Park is contained within the region, making it a prime tourist location. The region has a land area of 35,860.05 km² (13,845.64 sq mi) and a population of 266,112 residents as of the 2016 Census. Its largest cities are Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan. The word ''Mauricie'' was coined by local priest and historian Albert Tessier and is based on the Saint-Maurice river which runs through the region on a North-South axis. Lake Édouard (Quebec)
The Lake Edouard, Quebec is a lake in Canada, in province of Quebec, in the municipality of Lac-Edouard in the administrative region of Mauricie. The entire area of this lake is located in the municipality of Lac-Edouard. Geography This lake is the head of the valley of the Batiscanie, Quebec. This lake has the distinction of having two emissaries: Batiscan River and Jeannotte River. The main tributary of the lake is the Rats River whose headwater lake is Rats Lake; the river flows north-east before turning south to empty into the Rats Bay, located in the western part of the lake. The Pierre-Paul River flows into the Mékinac Regional County Municipality, in the administrative area of the Mauricie, in the province of Quebec, Canada, through these three municipalities of the Batiscanie: Saint-Tite, Sainte-Thècle and Saint-Adelphe.
