African Moon Tetra
The African moon tetra (''Bathyaethiops caudomaculatus'') is a species of African tetra, found in slow flowing rivers of the middle and lower course of the Congo River. The fish is often kept in aquaria but little is known about is its distribution and habits. Appearance ''B. caudomaculatus'' measures around 8 cm long, it is a relatively deep bodied fish with a general gold coloration, which is interrupted by a large black spot at the base of the caudal fin of the fish. There is also a small red spot visible under the dorsal fin, this is smaller in females (which are generally deeper bodied). The fish has typically large eyes and clear fins. Distribution ''B. caudomaculatus'' is found in the central and lower Congo River basin where it inhabits densely vegetated streams and backwaters. Henry Weed Fowler (March 23, 1878 – June 21, 1965) was an American zoologist born in Holmesburg, Pennsylvania. He studied at Stanford University under David Starr Jordan. He joined the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia and worked as an assistant from 1903 to 1922, associate curator of vertebrates from 1922 to 1934, curator of fish and reptiles from 1934 to 1940 and curator of fish from 1940 to 1965. He published material on numerous topics including crustaceans, birds, reptiles and amphibians, but his most important work was on fish. In 1927 he co-founded the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists and acted as treasurer until the end of 1927. Jacques Pellegrin
Jacques Pellegrin (12 June 1873, Paris – 12 August 1944) was a French zoologist. In Paris, he worked under zoologist Léon Vaillant (chair of reptiles and fishes) at the ''Muséum national d'histoire naturelle''. From 1897, Pellegrin served as ''préparateur'' at the museum. He obtained doctorates in medicine (1899) and science (1904), and in 1908 was named as an assistant director. After many missions abroad, he became sub-director of the museum in 1937, and replaced Louis Roule (1861–1942) as the chairperson of herpetology and ichthyology. He published over 600 scientific books and articles and discovered around 350 new species. Max Fernand Leon Poll (21 July 1908 in Ruisbroek, Flemish Brabant, Ruisbroek – 13 March 1991 in Uccle) was a Belgians, Belgian ichthyologist who specialised in the Cichlidae. In the years 1946 and 1947 he organised an exploration, expedition to Lake Tanganyika.
