Bath County is a United States county on the central western border of the Commonwealth of Virginia, on the West Virginia state line. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,209, the second-least populous county in Virginia. Bath's county seat is Warm Springs. History and economy Bath County was created on December 14, 1790, from parts of Augusta, Botetourt, and Greenbrier counties. Due to the many mineral springs found in the area, the county was named for the English spa and resort city of Bath. In the early 1700s, before the county was formed, the area that subsequently became Bath County was settled by immigrants from England. The families who settled in what has since become Bath County came to Virginia from the English regions of Hampshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire, the western portion of Sussex, Dorset, Somerset, Norfolk, Suffolk, Surrey, Kent and Lincolnshire. WFXR (channel 27) is a television station licensed to Roanoke, Virginia, United States, serving as the Fox affiliate for the Roanoke– Lynchburg market. It is owned by Nexstar Media Group alongside Lynchburg-licensed CW owned-and-operated station WWCW (channel 21). Both stations share studios at the Valleypointe office park on Valleypoint Parkway in Hollins (with a Roanoke mailing address), while WFXR's transmitter is located on Poor Mountain in unincorporated southwestern Roanoke County. Even though WFXR maintains a digital signal of its own, the signal's full-powered broadcasting radius does not cover much of the eastern portion of the market. Therefore, the station is simulcast in high definition over WWCW's second digital subchannel in order to reach the entire market. Bath County High School—the only high school in Bath County, Virginia—is a VHSL Class 1 high school serving students in grades 8-12. Athletics BCHS has had athletic success over the years. Most notably, future William & Mary quarterback Jacob Phillips and his younger brother, future Virginia Tight End John Phillips, led the varsity football team to the Class A Division 1 state title in 2003.
