Harry Bassett
Harry Bassett (1868–1878) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse, winner of the 1871 Belmont Stakes and an outstanding racehorse of the 19th century. He also won a number of other stakes races, and was named the Champion male of his age group in 1870, 1871 and 1872. He was retired to stud duties in New Jersey when his five-year racing career ended, having recorded 23 wins from 36 starts. Harry Bassett died in New Jersey in 1878 and was inducted into the United States Racing Hall of Fame in 2010. Bassett-Lowke was an English toy manufacturing company based in Northampton. Founded by Wenman Joseph Bassett-Lowke in 1898 or 1899, the company specialized in model railways, boats and ships, and construction sets. Bassett-Lowke started as a mail-order business, although it designed and manufactured some items. The company closed in 1965, with its rights to brand acquired by Corgi Toys. When Corgi was taken over by Hornby in 2008, it secured rights to the ''Bassett-Lowke'' brand, which is still commercialising. USS ''Bassett'' (APD-73), ex-DE-672, was a United States Navy high-speed transport in commission from 1945 to 1946 and from 1950 to 1957. Namesake Edgar Rees Bassett was born on 10 March 1914 in Philadelphia. He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve as a seaman 2d class on 13 February 1940 at New York City. Commissioned Ensign on 20 May 1941, he joined Fighting Squadron 42 (VF-42) on 9 June as it was preparing for its first Neutrality Patrol cruise on board the . He was awarded air medals for his aggressive performance of duty in the first few months of the war, especially for his strafing gun emplacements and Japanese barges during the raid on Lae and Salamaua, New Guinea, on 10 March 1942. Bassetts Island is a "Y"-shaped island within Pocasset Harbor and Red Brook Harbor, in Bourne, Massachusetts, USA. 41-40’48” North x 070-38’13” West Is located between two Peninsulas, Wings Neck to the North and Scraggy Neck to the South, and is geographically separated into four portions, the central, northeast, southeast, and the western. Bassett Hall is an 18th-century farmhouse located in Williamsburg, Virginia. It was the home of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and his wife Abby Aldrich Rockefeller during the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg. Early history The house was built by Philip Johnson, a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses, between 1753 and 1766. It was named for Martha Washington's nephew, Burwell Bassett, who purchased the house in 1800. During the Civil War, the Union cavalryman George Armstrong Custer was a guest in the home for 10 days.
