Basketball At The 2018 Commonwealth Games – Women's Tournament
The women's basketball tournament at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held on the Gold Coast, Australia from April 5 to 15. The basketball competition was held at three venues: Cairns Convention Centre in Cairns, Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre in Townsville for the preliminaries and the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on the Gold Coast for the finals. This was the second time that the basketball competition was held at the Commonwealth Games. A total of eight women's competed (96 athletes, at 12 per team) in each respective tournament. Qualification A total of eight women's teams qualified to compete at the games. At least four out of the six Commonwealth regions were considered to be represented in each tournament, if possible. For the home nations, each country may compete, however the ranking of Great Britain was given to the home nation with the most players on the team. Cairns Convention Centre
The Cairns Convention Centre is a convention and entertainment centre in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. The venue was selected the World's Best Congress Centre in 2004 and 2014. Basketball At The Commonwealth Games
Basketball was first included in the Commonwealth Games in the 2006 games in Melbourne and returned as part of the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Following the 2018 Games, regular full-court basketball was replaced as an optional Commonwealth Games sport by the 3x3 variation of the sport. This will make its debut at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, with both able-bodied and wheelchair competitions taking place. History In 2006 in Melbourne, Australia won the first ever Commonwealth Games Gold Medals in both the men's and women's competitions. The FIBA Men's World Ranking are FIBA's rankings of national basketball teams. FIBA ranks both men's and women's national teams for both senior and junior competitions. Townsville Entertainment And Convention Centre
Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre is an indoor sports arena located in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The capacity of the arena is 5,257 and was built in 1993. Tenants From 1993 until the end of the 2013–14 NBL season, the centre was the home arena of the Townsville Crocodiles basketball team. During Crocodiles games, the venue was commonly referred to as "The Swamp". Due to a downturn in attendance figures, the Crocs played at the Townsville RSL Stadium during the 2014–15 NBL season. In May 2015, the Crocodiles announced they would be returning to "The Swamp" for the 2015–16 season.
