Basketball At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's tournament of basketball at the 2000 Olympics at Sydney, Australia began on September 16 and ended on September 30, when the United States defeated Australia 76–54 for the gold medal. Preliminary round games were held at The Dome and elimination games at the Sydney SuperDome. Qualifying Format * Twelve teams are split into 2 preliminary round groups of 6 teams each. 2000 Summer Olympics
The 2000 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXVII Olympiad and also known as Sydney 2000 (Dharug: ''Gadigal 2000''), the Millennium Olympic Games or the Games of the New Millennium, was an international multi-sport event held from 15 September to 1 October 2000 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It marked the second time the Summer Olympics were held in Australia, and in the Southern Hemisphere, the first being in Melbourne, in 1956. 1999 FIBA Americas Championship For Women
The 1999 FIBA Americas Championship for Women, was the fifth FIBA Americas Championship for Women regional basketball championship held by FIBA Americas, which also served as Americas qualifier for the 2000 Summer Olympics, granting berths to the top three teams in the final standings. It was held in Cuba between 12 May and 17 August 1999. Eight national teams entered the event under the auspices of FIBA Americas, the sport's regional governing body. Helen Cristina Santos Luz (born November 23, 1972 in Araçatuba, Brazil) is a retired Brazilian professional basketball player. Janeth dos Santos Arcain (, born April 11, 1969 in São Paulo, Brazil) is a retired Brazilian professional women's basketball player. She played in the United States for the Houston Comets in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) from 1997 to 2005.
