Baskerville Raceway
Baskerville Raceway is a permanent motor racing circuit located at 473 Baskerville Rd, Old Beach, Tasmania, Old Beach - a northern suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Founded in 1954, the Hobart Sporting Car Club built the circuit in a natural amphitheatre on land provided by Calvin Morrisby (after whom turn 7 is named). The circuit was officially opened on 9 February 1958 by then Tasmanian Premier Robert Cosgrove with 20,000 spectators in attendance, and has been operating continuously ever since. Baskerville is the second oldest continuously operating motor racing venue in Australia, with only Mount Panorama Circuit, Mount Panorama (which opened in 1938) being older. Cheetah Racing Cars was a prolific Australian manufacturer of race cars. The cars were almost solely designed, engineered and constructed by Brian Shead in a small factory at the rear of his home in Mordialloc, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. History The first Cheetah was built for Shead's personal use in 1960. It was a 'Cooper Copy' built to race in Formula Junior. A second Cheetah was built in 1962 and third in 1963. A completely new design was commenced in 1970, after which a friend (Don Biggar) persuaded Shead to construct an additional car, Mk4H Hill-climb car powered by an Oldsmobile V8 engine. By 1973 Shead gave up his usual job to design and build race cars full-time. The final car was produced in 1989, being a Mk9 for use in Formula Holden. Ralt RT4
The Ralt RT4 is an open-wheel formula racing car, designed, developed and built by Ralt, for Formula Atlantic (and was also occasionally raced in Formula Two categories), in 1980. It was later converted into a closed-wheel prototype, and used in the revived Can-Am series, between 1982 and 1985, where it achieved only modest success. In Can-Am copetition the car achieved 1 podium finish, 1 class victory and a best result of a 2nd-place finish. Background The RT4 was the car of choice in Australian Formula 1 and Formula Mondial during the early to mid-1980s. John Bowe (racing Driver)
John Bowe (born 16 April 1954 in Devonport, Tasmania) is an Australian racing driver, presently racing a Holden Torana in the Touring Car Masters series. Bowe is a multiple Australian Champion, having twice won the Australian Drivers' Championship during the Formula Mondial era and the Australian Sports Car Championship, before winning the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1995. He has also won the prestigious Bathurst 1000 touring car endurance race twice, in 1989 and 1994. McLaren M10
The McLaren M10 was a Formula 5000 race car chassis built by McLaren that competed in North America and Europe between 1969 and 1973. Design The McLaren M10 was manufactured in large numbers. Built close to the weight limit, it was very light and was powered by a 500+ hp Chevrolet V8 engine. The cars were not manufactured by McLaren itself, but by the British racing car manufacturer Trojan. Trojan was able to complete and deliver 17 of the originally ordered quantity of 50 vehicles.
