Besançon (, , , ; archaic german: Bisanz; la, Vesontio) is the prefecture of the department of Doubs in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The city is located in Eastern France, close to the Jura Mountains and the border with Switzerland. Saints Ferreolus and Ferrutio (or Fargeau and Ferrutius; french: Ferréol et Ferjeux; it, Ferreolo e Ferruccio) (died ca. AD 212) are venerated as martyrs and saints by the Catholic Church, especially in Besançon where they are honored as its patron saints.
