Basil McCormack
Basil Milton McCormack (3 August 1904 – 19 February 1973) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1925 and 1936 for the Richmond Football Club. Family The son of Michael McCormack and Mary McCormack (1865–1950), née Foley, he was born at Rochester, Victoria on 3 August 1904. Richmond A left-foot kick, recruited from Rochester, he played 200 senior games for the Richmond Football Club as a half-back flanker, and represented Victoria on 13 occasions. Double debut Granted his clearance from Rochester to Richmond on Friday, 1 May 1925, he played his first match for Richmond, selected on the half-back flank, against Hawthorn, on 2 May 1925 (round 1). Rochester, Victoria
Rochester is a small town in rural Victoria, Australia. It is located north of Melbourne with a mixture of rural and semi-rural communities on the northern Campaspe River, between Bendigo and the Murray River port of Echuca. At the , Rochester had a population of 3,154. History The area around the Campaspe River was known as Yalooka, which for thousands of years was home to the Pinpandoor, the local tribe of Aboriginal Australians. Rochester (via ''Rowechester'') was named after Dr John Pearson Rowe, who had a hotel here before the township was gazetted in 1855. The Post Office opened on 11 May 1863 and the town was reached by the railway line from Bendigo (connecting it to Melbourne) in 1864. The Rochester Magistrates' Court closed on 1 January 1990. 1927 Melbourne Carnival
The 1927 Melbourne Carnival was the sixth Australian National Football Carnival: an Australian rules football interstate competition. New South Wales caused the biggest upset of the carnival when they defeated Tasmania by three points and, also, came close to beating Western Australia. Victoria again finished on top of the table. Bentleigh, Victoria
Bentleigh is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 13 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Glen Eira local government area. Bentleigh recorded a population of 17,921 at the 2021 census. Within Bentleigh is the locale of Patterson, formally a part of Bentleigh but felt by many locals to be a distinct area. History Bentleigh was named after Victorian politician, Thomas Bent. The first Post Office in the area opened on 1 July 1865 as Jasper Road. After the railway arrived it moved to near the station in 1882 and was named Brighton East. In 1908 it was renamed Bentleigh in line with the railway station name. A Patterson Post Office opened in 1948. In 1961 it was renamed Patterson West when a new Patterson office opened near the railway station.
