Brandon Christopher McCartney (born August 17, 1989), professionally known as Lil B and as his alter ego The BasedGod, is an American rapper. Lil B has recorded both solo and with Bay Area group The Pack. His solo work spans several genres, including hip hop, new age, indie rock and choral music. He describes his work as "based", a term which denotes a lifestyle of positivity and tolerance; and is noted for his extensive use of social media to build an online cult following. Early life McCartney grew up in Berkeley, California, and attended high school at Albany High in Albany. He adopted the name Lil B, and began rapping at age 15 with San Francisco Bay Area based hip hop group The Pack. After two locally successful mixtapes, at the peak of the Bay Area's hyphy movement, the group's song "Vans" became a surprise hit. ''Rain in England'' is the second studio album by American rapper Lil B, released through Weird Forest on September 21, 2010. Produced by Lil B under his persona "The Based God", ''Rain in England'' is unusual for the hip hop genre because it has no percussive beats. Instead, Lil B raps over New-age music, new-age-style synthesizer music. The lyrical style, which finds Lil B speaking on topics like family, love and death, has been noted for its sincerity and reflectiveness. The Pack (group)
The Pack was a hip hop group formed in Berkeley, California in 2004. The group consisted of Lil B (Brandon McCartney), Young L (Lloyd Omadhebo), Stunnaman (Keith Jenkins), and Lil Uno (Damonte Johnson). They all recorded together for over a year at Young L's home studio where they released their first two mixtapes '' Wolfpack Muzik Vol. 1'' and '' Wolfpack Muzik Vol. 2''. The Pack expanded their fanbase and eventually got signed to a major label, when Too Short signed The Pack to his Jive Records-distributed label Up All Nite Records. The Pack is usually known for their skateboard raps and the sexually explicit content of many of their songs. The group is best known for the track "Vans". ''Based Boys'' is the debut album by Bay Area rap group The Pack. The album was released on October 30, 2007, by Jive Records. Music videos The first video was shot for "In My Car" in Los Angeles by famed director Dale "Rage" Resteghini. The second video was shot on December 13, 2007, in New York for "I Look Good". Other videos off the album include music videos shot for "Vans" and "I'm Shinin'" shot previously to help promote Skateboards 2 Scrapers EP. A low budget music video was also shot for "Booty Bounce Bopper". Sales Even though their first EP ''Skateboards 2 Scrapers'' received fairly good sale reception, their debut album ''Based Boys'' failed to do so. ''Angels Exodus'' is the third studio album by American rapper Lil B. It was released digitally on January 18, 2011 through BasedWorld Records and Amalgam Digital. It serves as a prelude to Lil B's 2012 mixtape, ''Glassface''. Music and lyrics ''Angels Exodus'' is based on a loose theme of "Lil B against the undead: zombies and vampires." Indie Rock
Indie rock is a subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or " guitar pop rock". Founded in 2006 by Anyextee, the privately owned label had been home to a variety of artists throughout the decade before significantly downsizing in its later years. Cloud Rap
Cloud rap is a subgenre of Southern rap and trap music that has several sonic characteristics of lo-fi in its hazy, dreamlike and relaxed sound. Many music experts credit rapper Lil B and producer Clams Casino as the early pioneers of this style. The term "cloud rap" is related to its internet birth and its ethereal style. Origins Cloud rap initially came out of Atlanta, Houston, and Memphis during the late 2000s. The term "cloud rap" is popularly used in reference to lo-fi, hazy rap.
