Basak or Bosak ( bn, বসাক) is a Bengali Hindu surname that is found among the Bengalis of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and Tripura as well as in Bangladesh. Bengali Hindus
Bengali Hindus ( bn, বাঙ্গালী হিন্দু/বাঙালি হিন্দু, translit=Bāṅgālī Hindu/Bāṅāli Hindu) are an ethnoreligious population who make up the majority in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jharkhand, and Assam's Barak Valley region. Gour Das Bysack (sometimes parts of his name have been transliterated as Gaur, Dass, Dos, Bysac) was a Bengali writer prominent in the late 19th century. He was known for his friendship with Michael Madhusudan Dutta. He died before 1901. Biren Kumar Basak (born 16 May 1951) is an Indian handloom weaver from the Nadia district. He is the recipient of Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India. Career Basak worked as a weaver at the age of 13 in Phulia. His family migrated to West Bengal from Tangail after the partition. Soumen Basak is an Indian immunologist and virologist at the National Institute of Immunology (NII). A former fellow of the Wellcome Trust DBT India Alliance, he is known for his studies on the NF-kappaB signaling system. Career Soumen earned an M.Sc. from the Biochemistry department of the University of Calcutta in 1998, and then joined the same department to carry out doctoral research under the guidance of Prof. Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay.
