Basail ( bn, বাসাইল) is an upazila of Tangail District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Geography Basail is located at . It has 27481 households and total area 157.78 km2. Demographics As of the 2011 Bangladesh census, Basail has a population of 159870. Males constitute 50.97% of the population, and females 49.03%. Basail has an average literacy rate of 50.4% (7+ years). Administration Basail Upazila is divided into six union parishads: Basail, Fulki, Habla, Kanchanpur, Kaoaljani, and Kashil. The union parishads are subdivided into 72 mauzas and 107 villages. Education According to Banglapedia, Basail Govinda Government High School, founded in 1945, is a notable secondary school. Basail Govinda Government High School
Basail Govinda Government High School is a secondary school in Basail Upazila, one of five government high schools in Tangail District in the division of Dhaka Division, Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 1945, sons of landlord Govinda Chandra Roy established this school in their father's memory who died circa 1908. The first headmaster of this school was Babu Bosonto Kumar Roy. At this time, the name of the school was ‘Basail Middle English School (বাসাইল মধ্য ইংরেজী বিদ্যালয়)’. At the beginning, it was English medium school and the activities of the school was started at the landlord house (present Roy Bari at Basail East para). In 1948, Charu Chandra Roy, Apurbo Chandra Roy and Saroj Bandhu Roy sons of Govinda Chandra Roy transferred the school to its present location. Kanchanpur Union ( bn, কাঞ্চনপুর ইউনিয়ন) is a union of Basail Upazila, Tangail District, Bangladesh. It is situated at southeast of Basail and east of Tangail. Fulki Union ( bn, ফুলকী ইউনিয়ন) is a union of Basail Upazila, Tangail District, Bangladesh. It is situated east of Tangail. Demographics According to the 2011 Bangladesh census, Fulki Union had 7,356 households and a population of 29,792. The literacy rate (age 7 and over) was 48% (male: 50.6%, female: 45.8%). Asiatic Society Of Bangladesh
The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh was established as the Asiatic Society of East Pakistan in Dhaka in 1952 by a number of Muslim leaders, and renamed in 1972. Ahmed Hasan Dani, a noted Muslim historian and archaeologist of Pakistan played an important role in founding this society. He was assisted by Muhammad Shahidullah, a Bengali linguist.
