Barzan, Iraq
Barzan ( ku, بارزان, Barzan) is a village located on the eastern shores of the Great Zab in Erbil Governorate in Kurdistan Region, Iraq. History The village was formerly the territory of Zebari tribe and was part of Bahdinan under the name ''Baziran''. In the 19th century, the village was the residence of a Naqshbandi Sheikh and his followers, now known as the Barzani tribe. In 1914, Barzan was the site of a Russian-supported Kurdish uprising against the Ottoman Empire, which was fought concurrently with the Bitlis uprising. The tribe was nominally autonomous from the Ottoman Empire until 1915 when the Ottomans stormed the village and hanged the local sheikh. In the early 20th century, the village had a conflict with the neighboring Bradost tribe which necessitated intervention from Iraqi authorities. Barzan () is a commune in the Charente-Maritime department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of south-western France. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Barzanais'' or ''Barzanaises''. The commune is the site of a major Gallo-Roman site of Barzan structured excavations carried out since 1994. Aerial photographs and the first archaeological excavations have revealed the presence of a Gallo-Roman port city of great importance (a monumental Gallo-Roman temple, baths, forum, theatre etc.). Other remains are the subject of annual excavations. It seems almost certain that this Gallo-Roman town is the ''Novioregum'' indicated in the Antonine Itinerary. Barzan ( ar, قصر برزان) was a historical palace in Ha'il, Saudi Arabia. Its construction was begun in 1808 by Prince Muhammad bin Abdul Muhsin Al Ali. The palace was completed during the rule of the second Rashidi amir, Talal bin Abdullah. Barzan Palace consisted of three floors and covered an area of more than 300,000 square meters. Barzan Ibrahim Hassan al-Tikriti (17 February 1951 – 15 January 2007) ( ar, برزان إبراهيم الحسن التكريتي), also known as Barazan Ibrahim al-Tikriti, Barasan Ibrahem Alhassen and Barzan Hassan, was one of three half-brothers of Saddam Hussein, and a leader of the Mukhabarat, the Iraqi intelligence service.
